Big Lake July 25
 

Went out to big lake in my kayak today and caught a mess of trout. Most between 18" and 23"; only a couple of dinks. Caught a nice flatty about 18", a couple of small reds, and a few bull croaker that like to eat catch 2000s. My big trout had a shot at beating the current Kayak divison STAR till my stringer got sharked. Bastard didn’t want any of the 2lbers. Anyway it was fun to get back out to Big Lake; hadn’t been out west since May.

dang them ol sharks luv ta eat them big gals huh? the lake was sooo calm today. i went and did pretty good.glad ya got out and had a good time. nice fish err and a half lol

Thats wild....Were you where we talked about? If so that shark was close in!!!

Thats some nice trout...I wish you could of got that STAR one in......My wife was down there today and said the BOATS were out of hand

it was nuts dubya, when id stick a fish, i hadta just put my rod tip in the water till they quit looki otherwise, boom, they were on toppa me.oh well, another potlickers story lol

First spot I anchored up some guys drifted right up to me and anchored. We were sharing fan coverage on an area. Pretty frustrating; but at least they did it quietly. I guess thats the most you can hope for on the weekends.

We were looking to Potlick someone, but didn't see anyone catching fish.

Looks like it would have made the board. How many did you end up with. I had the same thing happen to me yesterday out of my kayak.

The shark should of at least hit the smaller one. Don't he know you were chasing a CCA award?????

Sharks are very inconsiderate creatures, they only think of themselves and not the guy above the water sweating his a$$ off to catch the fish, lazy bastards

My stringers have been sharked many times. They never hit the smaller trout, always the good ones.

Just wondering......If you use the floating cloth basket fish holder, do the sharks still attack the fish inside it?

Ended up with 8 specks between 18" and 23". All but 2 were caught on a Catch 2000 worked VERY fast.
Water was calm, but very low and a good bit dirtier than I like.

Sorry to hear about the shark killing that CCA attemp but that is a good stringer of fish.

how big did it need to be? We've been catching some nice fish at V. Bay but nothing over 5 yet so far

The current lead is only a hair over 4 i think, cant "mother-ship" though. Makes for some long paddles on big lake with the refuge shorelines.

That shark was Karma, for the ticket you didn't get on the way out there.:grinpimp:

Maybe next time I won't have such a bad time. It was a good day on the water.

I love to use that catch 2000....thats all i will throw in about two months

Choupique...Where are you launching when you fish big lake. All of my usual spots would be really long paddles. Always looking for new places to try out, especially in my yak.

Catch2000 are fun, but when is Super Magnum Season on Big Lake? :eek::eek:

I haven’t really done a whole lot of fishing in Big Lake; maybe a dozen trips or so. Always trying to learn a little to kinda get a better picture of the estuary as a whole... I kinda hop around each time to explore. Been out of Calcasieu Point, Crab Lady (private now), Herberts, Prien Lake Park, and on the west side West Cove, Hog Island Gully , Dugas Landing and Herberts. On the to do list of launches are Fred’s Lounge, Splicers, and Holly Beach.

I do most of my fishing out on the East side of the state, but I like to change it up as much as I can.

catch 2000's are third behind my favorite two baits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
