American Rodsmith vs. Waterloo?

I'm looking to get a new trout rod and I'm stuck between the American Rodsmith h3 Titanium and the Waterloo HP Slam Mag. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated?

Dink 03-21-2011 01:29 PM

Definitely American!! Unless you can get a refurbished Waterloo......

Hopedale Hustler 03-21-2011 01:40 PM

American rodsmith no doubt

speckinabox 03-21-2011 01:59 PM

Ive got both and i have to say my Waterloo HP lite is a better trout rod. Dont get me wrong the American Rodsmith is a great rod but the Waterloo is like a feather in your hand and is very sensitive.

PUREBAY2200 03-21-2011 02:24 PM

Castaway skeleton......

Speck, Would you order the HP lite instead of the mag?

LaAngler 03-21-2011 02:33 PM

just choose the rod by the way it feels in your hand, and warranty.

think about that

G Loomis IMX or GLX or NLX... if you work for NASA then you start at the later.;)

I prefer the HP Slam over the Slam Mag, if you want a longer rod go with the Lite

2nd, 3rd, and 4th on the Skeleton. Medium Light, short handled is the way to go!!

RaginCagin 03-21-2011 04:22 PM

I loved my American rods until my buddy smashed bot the tips in his rod box at toledo bend last year:cry:

I like the waterloo's, i'd rather throw an All-star skrimptail special than a American rodsmith.

Not very durable..... Most returned rod n america. good feel, light & sensitive. Just too many issues.

Fool, they take care of your problem?

LPfishnTIM 03-21-2011 09:07 PM

I have an older american rodsmith trout rod, it doesn't have enough guides on it but it is light and sensitive, its held up against some pretty nice size reds, but that rod was given to me, I'd prefer a falcon inshore rod before I'd go with an American rodsmith.

Drost,
Which waterloo do you fish with, or do you have a couple for different applications?

cmdrost 03-22-2011 09:06 AM

HP Slam Mag with recoil titanium guides......I throw big baits 95% of the time

Disagree...I watched at least 5 Am Rodsmith rods snap in my boat alone..... I had one a few years back...snap!!!

Skeleton is crap.... Know of at least 12 that have broke...3 in my boat!!! I have only snapped one waterloo and it was doing something stupid...let's just say wharf fishing at night ....

I would use a All star or Falcon before any Rodsmith or Castaway!!

LaAngler 03-22-2011 09:28 AM

waterloo QC seems weak, only way i'd buy another is to pick from a rack of at least 10 or more

I just spoke with Carson and pulled the trigger on a Hp Slam mag for big baits, and the hp light for everything else. Nice guy and very helpful. Thanks W.

Nope..but he will have a lot more fell and action from his rod which will increase his strike to catch ratio!! :D

And Salty..Your Falcon rods have no dog in this show!!!

I didn't bring it up. A couple of people think so, tho. One of 'em happens to be one of the best fishermen on "your" lake. :smokin:
