Favorite Sunglasses

What type of sunglasses does everyone wear.

I have Costa Del Mar Blackfins with 400 Grey lenses and I really like them.

Had some people tell me that Oakley lenses are better than the 580 Costa's.

Lets find out

specktator 03-24-2011 11:24 AM

My latest pair is the Costa "Corbina" 400 w/ green mirror. Just came out few months ago. Very comfortable. I also have the Costa "Permit" 400 w/ green mirror which I like for fishing cause they are very large frames, block out the sun well and comfortable. Never had a pair of 580s, can't justify spending the extra dough.

Yep I like Blackfins too. Those are very popular. I know a few guys that have em and love em.

Lake Chuck Duck 03-24-2011 11:27 AM

I will always have costas if I am spendeing money on glasses. I just got my first pair of 580's in fathoms and they are great. I bought them for an awsome price from Salty Shaw.

yak'em-n-stack'em 03-24-2011 11:28 AM

I've worn costas and Oakley.

Oakley has nothing on fishing like costa does. I have harpoon 580s copper lens green tent.

You get more sun on your face with them. But you can see so well in off colored water it's worth it

I think everyone in south la wears costas. I like costa glass but their frames are not great but I still buy them. 580 blue is what I wear.

LaAngler 03-24-2011 11:31 AM

right now i'm using two pairs of costas

green/amber 400 fathoms & copper/silver 580 harpoons

The harpoon frames really don't move at all while fishing & looking back while running, don't need a cord on them. I can't tell much difference on the lenses, the copper is a slight bit lighter but does just as good of job on/off the water without the green eyed look.

got mine here

I have the MP2 in blue mirror 580. Love em. Got them on steap and cheap for $85, normally $259. If you want some with 580 lens, keep an eye on steap and cheap, it took me only about 2 weeks to find mine on there.

Personally, my favorite pair is whatever I have laying around with the fewest scratches at the time! Normally, they say something about being Z87 on the lens somewhere. Yeah, I'm cheap!:*****:

Got a pair of these laying around IN THE BOX I will let go for $50 if there are any takers.

I have had 2 pair of Costas the first pair I had were green tint and when I went overseas I traded a buddy for a pair of black lenses because green tint was not authoraized. They got scratched up in the sand and my dog ate them later. Got another pair of those tortoise shell with green lenses and liked those for 2 years and..my dog ate those too. Now have a pair of $20 polarized Calcutta I think? They do what they are supposed to do, and my dog has not eaten them yet for some reason?

i got the wiley x's from my podnuh in the marines -wouldnt give me his special forces issued oakleys polarized half-frames..

the oakley's oil drums were given to me by a medic in the army .

i used to sandblast /paint offshore and they wiley x's was nice to have(if it can handle iraq/afghan--it can handle GOM sandblasting...

for anybody that uses sunscreen on their faces.....know how bad it sucks when you start sweating and the sunscreen starts dripping in your eyes!!!

the wiley x's remedies this , ...

either way....i know if something hits the glasses, i know for a fact it aint gonna shatter

flounder_smacker 03-24-2011 02:30 PM

I had a pair of bolle vipers I think they were called? Good pair of shades. Lost them in vermillion bay then switched to costa. Might switch back after these 580s break.

I bought a cheap used pair of the amber CR 39 lens fathoms on ebay that I use for everyday BS. That way if something happens its no big deal. My first pair of costas were the wave killers. Good glasses but way to heavy to not have nose rubber grips. Slightest bit of sweat and they slide right off with ease. My 580 fathoms are perfect for fishin.

Asterisk-Rich 03-24-2011 03:21 PM

harpoon 580's green mirror tint...lost them when the saints won the super bowl...drove straight from N.O to lafayette academy and bought the same pair...ive had 400's and 580's IN MY OWN (expert) OPINION the 580 lenses blow the 400's out of the water

Blackfins 580 kinda want to get a tortoise frame with green lenses but don't want to get the same style I don't think anybody wear the Fisch?

Ray 03-25-2011 10:19 AM

I have some Costa's with readers in them.
One time I was running down the ship channel early, before daylight.
Bilge pump light came on, I turned around and looked at the pump outlet and wham, glasses came off my hat, in the water.
First cast, backlash. Couldn't see the dang string to fix it. Cut the mono and got another pole.
Now I got a string on them and hang around my neck before daylight.

Lost my Costas in Toledo bend a couple weekends ago. New pair on the way.

Cheap sunglasses get lost or broken in a few weeks.
Pay a bill or more for them and they last forever.

I had just got my Costa Permits, hadn't worn em once yet. Was running offshore 2 summers ago and didnt have croakies for them yet and it was dark so I put them in my pocket. Sun starts coming up, pulled them out my pocket and one lense is shattered. :pissed: Still have no idea how!
