In like flynn. I believe there was a "No fishing the weirs" rule in the fine print.

Bass Tournament that day

Capt.B 04-06-2011 08:47 PM

How many teams fished this event last year?? Gotta have a good turn out to be worth it...

mikedatiger 04-06-2011 08:52 PM

They averaged roughly 30 boats last year in what looks like it's 1st year. For @30 boats it paid out @1700 for 1st..

It's a 100% payout tournament.

guess they scared someone with a tiller handled outboard would show all the high priced rigs up so they made it illegal to fish this tournament. Bad when you have to own a 25,000 dollar rig to fish a tournament

Its for safty reasons....

gckid 04-07-2011 10:23 AM

BS. I have to use a kill switch just like everyone else, and abide by same laws

You also have to wear a life jacket unlike everyone else:rolleyes:

If you want to fish find a partner with a center console boat....This has been a rule for years! Its for safety bottom line! One hand on a tiller is not 100% full control of a boat!.... Full control is two hands on steering wheel... This is why Tiller Handle boats have to wear lifejackets... simple rules

I cant believe it... an argument that actually makes "since" and is correct;):p

gckid 04-07-2011 10:55 AM

not in a 20 foot boat, which I run and how do you keep two hands on the steering wheel and work the trottle. I guess you've never had a steering pump go out or line bust on steering. Not nice.

Just telling you why its a rule..... I dont make them...just follow....in the eyes of insurance and WL&F ... a boat with steering wheel is safer than with out....

Good thing the insurance doesn't read like a carnival ride or you wouldn't be going either!

Ray 04-07-2011 12:01 PM

I wear an inflateable and kill switch when fishing alone.
I have read way too many accident and death reports in the news in the past few years about folks who die due to simple accidents on the water. Especially when fishing alone.

I don't see the issue with tiller motors. I ran them for 30 years and never had a serious accident. Go-Devil is a different story.

Lake Chuck Duck 04-07-2011 12:38 PM

You can be safe in a tiller handle. I dont see what that would have to do with a fishin tournament.

It'sa big shot syndrome.
They don't want anyone in a $3,000 boat to beat out someone in a $39,000 boat.

"W" 04-07-2011 04:57 PM

Bottom line is you must have a steering wheel to compete... all money tournaments are like this.... No one cares how safe you have been over the years... All Tournaments require the same......No tiler handle boats......

And you have to have a live well to keep fish alive.... If fish are dead you lose a 1lb

And it was good on the grill, too!

Pole_benda 04-11-2011 12:20 PM

Most money tournament have boat length restrictions (no less than 16ft) but no rules stating tiller engines not allowed. This past weekend in Empire, there were 2 pro-drive boats in the tourney. Just saying....

I will be in this tourney and lots of good anglers from the east is coming. Cant wait to see the armada of boat sitting at the weirs and Jetties. Me and my partner goin to be doing what I do the best Marsh fishing!

boatdriver 04-11-2011 12:29 PM

It's on!!!!!

"W" 04-11-2011 12:31 PM

Humm....East vs West....This could be a good bragging rights here..... ding ding...

specktator 04-11-2011 12:40 PM

I have never fished a redfish tourney before. 27" is the biggest fish you can weigh in?

inchspinner 04-11-2011 12:41 PM

The weirs......that will look like a line at wall mart waiting for the only 13" flat screen on black friday.....betta buy ya gulp now lol..

Yes, 2 fish under 27" . Pinched tail, on the line at 27 is good, over the line . Fish is DQ. Must be alive.
A word of advice, buy a chek it stik measuring board. This is what they will be measuring fish with at the tourney. Not all boards are created equal

so they will pinch the tail to measure?

Yes they will pinch the tail, if its close she will flip the fish And measure again, They do this twice ,if its over the fish is DQ'd

"W" 04-11-2011 01:14 PM

Why not measure fish as it lays? ....I see the point but as the fish lays should be under or over 27,,,Not how the tail pinch is....

I think every fish is measured like that, the tail pinch. If you look at the LDWF handbook, it shows the same method.
