Lasik eye surgery

Looking for advice. I am 25 years old. Wanting to get laser surgery. unfortunately, my insurance does not cover it. I can get this procedure done for $3640.00 for both eyes. Has anyone here had this and is it worth this amount of money ?

I've worn contacts and glasses for 20 years.

My blind buddy did it and said it was the best thing he's ever done. No more contacts and glasses.

jpeff31787 05-04-2011 02:56 PM

One of my good friends had it done and said it was the best money he's ever spent.

I'm thinking about going that route myself. I'm sick and tired of wearing contacts. My eyes feel as dry as a desert and have always been real scratchy ever since. I've tried many kinds of contacts and its always the same feeling.

joshdomingue 05-04-2011 02:57 PM

i know a guy who did it and he has no regrets ....

i feel your pain, were in the same boat. I hate waking up at 2am to go fishing and putting in contacts. Or having one fold while ur in the boat and there is only beer and powerade in the ice chest and your having to put the contact back in with Big lake water... :pissed:

In baton rouge it's 999 an eye if you have astigmatism
799 an eye if you dont

youmyboyblue 05-04-2011 03:18 PM

Got mine done in 2004. BEST MONEY I ever spent. Dr. singer in Metairie did mine. $799.00 an eye. WELL worth the money. Actually the pre surgery Valium was worth the $799.00 per eye.

1fastmerc 05-04-2011 03:29 PM

A guy a work with had it done a few months back and loves it. I wish I had the $ to get it done. Maybe weedeater will lone me some $ being he's loaded.

All I can say is that my dad was a doctor and one of his close doctor friends who is a local Opthamologist told me to wait as long as you can, meaning after the age of 50 or later because they did not really know what the long term effects of the surgery. meaning if you have it done in your 20s and 30 years later????????

Tete Dur 05-04-2011 04:02 PM

I had it done about 4 years ago. It is the best thing I have ever done. I could see perfectly just hours after the surgery. The surger takes 20 minutes and is pain free.

My only advice would be not to go to someone that advertises speical rates on the radio or anything like that. These are your eyes and you only have 1 pair so go to someone that lets their work speak for itself and they don't need to advertise regularly. The doctor I chose was recommended to me by another doctor that had work done by him. I figure if one doc. trusts another doc. he must be good.

thats my options im weighing........

Note: IF I finance this for 5 years, im paying almost double===$5,900 for 2 eyes

I had it done 5 years ago. I got tired of the glasses and contacts. Best $2,500 I ever spent. The $3,640 sounds high. Where is this at? I did mine in Baton Rouge with DR Fay and I was very happy with everything. I still have 20-20 vision.
Good Luck!

Jordan, I look at it like this......few things are more important to you than your eyesight. I had LASIK done about 10 years ago. I'm damn near 100 and ain't never wore glasses. Dr. Steven Brint in Metarie is one of the pioneers of this procedure but he is expensive. Dr. Singer that Blue mentioned is probably your best option but, when it comes to my eyes, I'm getting the best. No matter the price...it's money well spent.

Jordan....... if you can wait......why not start saving up money for 2 years and then have the eyes operated on when you can pay cash for it.. That way you will save over $ 2000.

fishinpox 05-04-2011 08:26 PM

I bought LASIK for my ex wife @ Williamson eye clinic in br I think it was 2500 for both she no longer has to wear glasses ...

fishinpox 05-04-2011 08:27 PM

If u want to do it in br u can crash at my house the night b4 n after the procedure

2ndamendment 05-04-2011 08:56 PM

Had lasik on both my eyes in Baton Rouge 6 years ago. Best $2,000 I have ever spent. Had personal mapping on my left eye, due to it being much worse than the right. Had regular lasik on the right. Prior to the procedure I could not see distance clearly. After the procedure and 5 years later my distance vision is awesome.

booyagasha 05-05-2011 06:30 AM

I've seen em advertising on old Hammond in BR. FOR 799 PER EYE...but if you want the best..go to Dr D.(delahossay? ) @Seeca eye care in Houma..one of the best in the state

eman 05-05-2011 06:35 AM

Only met 2 folks that had problems and both just had to keep wearing glasses.
But, both had been told they were borderline not being a candidate for lasix.

He did mine around 2001. $699/eye back then. Did good for me.

scott craft 05-09-2011 07:57 AM

Dr. Singer did my bro-in-law a year or two before Rita and it works great for him.

Ray 05-09-2011 10:00 AM

When I got mine done way back in 2001, Dr. Singer had already done over 10,000 others. That is why I went to him. He did mine, gave me some sleeping pills and I
went across the street to a hotel and slept. Next morning I woke up and drove home.
He was in Metry on Clearview and I-10 back then.
