Making a change

Lookin to change phone companies, I have had Sprint for 8 yrs and was happy till about 3 months ago. I hunt west Texas and north Louisiana and fish pretty much all over so I need a phone with good coverage. I am lookin at Verizon and AT&T and was wondering what yall have and whats the best.

Purple Back 05-13-2011 09:10 AM

AT&T hands down; I hunt west texas and north LA, fish toledo and big lake, and I have service in all these areas. When I made the switch from sprint to AT&T it was like opening my eyes for the first time. Only complaint is there is only one store in LC area.

speckdaddy 05-13-2011 09:11 AM

X2. At n t. Is ya best bet imo

specktator 05-13-2011 10:42 AM

I'm with AT&T and drop calls like a mudda but reception-wise I have service everywhere i go. (Big Lake, Duck Lease in marsh Pecan Island, in the woods/swamps in St. Francisville, even in the middle of nowhere when I went antelope hunting in Wyoming) I was with Nextel from when they hit the market till about 7-8 years ago. The difference in coverage (AT&T to Sprint/Nextel) is night and day. When I was with Nextel, I used to have to drive about 6 miles from my camp in St. Francisville just to make a phone call.

That's why I will never be with AT&T. I would rather not be able to make a call at all than have full service and have to call someone 3 or 4 times to finish a conversation. A few of my buddies have AT&T and they're always having to call me back because they dropped the call. I'm with Sprint and have service everywhere I need it (deer lease, home, bay) so I'm happy with them.

LaAngler 05-13-2011 11:01 AM

only reason i stayed with sprint is the 99 dollar everything plan

BIRD DOG 05-13-2011 11:36 AM

I have t mobile,3 phones, one stays at home for kids...$140 a month and that includes unlimited talk text and web on two phones

Thats the problem I am fighting is droped calls, calls going in and out and not being able to call out or recive calls and all this with full tower power. I have talk to Sprint abunch of times in past few months and they know they have a problem but dont know how to fix it or when it will be solved.

AT&T is horrible with dropped calls now!!! Reception is good, but I have dropped calls every freaking day!! It sucks!

adamsfence 05-13-2011 01:01 PM

adamsfence 05-13-2011 01:05 PM

give me a month i will tell you they are making me switch. i think dink has verizon. i know he liked it last time i talked to him

Ray 05-13-2011 01:16 PM

Had Centennial, great phone service and good coverage till Rita hit.
Then I couldn't use it in downtown Cameron, Creole, Grand Chenier and Holly Beach.
So I went to Sprint. They have good reception down there. They have good customer sercice but I get a lot of dropped calls, or scratchy calls.
Centennial zero dropped calls in 10 years, but they had terrible customer service.
Every time I had an issue, the local stores sucked so bad, I ended up calling the national office to get decent service.
Centennial had better price plans also.

2ndamendment 05-13-2011 01:18 PM

It has been several years since I had sprint for service and now have AT&T. One of the things that I did not like with sprint was while at the lake(Toledo) I struggled to get service or none at all. Now with AT&T I have not found a place as of yet, while at the lake, that I do not have service. With AT&T for several years and can count on two hands the total dropped calls. Oh yeah, my biggest discount comes with AT&T service.

BIGJ 05-13-2011 01:25 PM

If you get Verizon you'll be sorry. AT&T is great compared to verizon.
Once you leave out of the city and enter a rural area verizon is out.

That sucks, I haven't had any problems dropping calls. The only time I get disconnected is when it's with someone from AT&T.

weedeater 05-13-2011 01:35 PM

I've had verizon for about 6 years and i love it. NEVER drop any calls. But like spectator said earlier NO service in Big Lake, NO service in St. Frank as soon as you get off of the Highway. No service in Pecan Island on the Duck Lease.

I live in New York now and i love it. I just got the IPHONE 4 and have never been happier!

I'd go with Verizon if you get a discount there. All the major companies are just as good and just as crappy as each other.

Ducktrickster 05-13-2011 02:48 PM

I'm with centennial. Awesome coverage and no dropped calls. Verizon bought them. Hope it makes the verizon half better and not centennial worse.

weedeater 05-13-2011 04:54 PM

wish they would all fix their crap then I would keep what I have along with my new phone I just bought

inchspinner 05-13-2011 05:11 PM

Haha ...no law after me. I HAD a free place to stay and figured why not give it a shot for a little while. Not everyone gets to say that they used to live in New York. Now I've been here for a little over a year. Tons and tons of beautiful women over here. I just broke up with my girl and told my parents that I was thinking about coming home ad they laughed at me and said " the best way to get over someone is to find someone new and your probably in one of the best places in the world to do that" ...they're probably right so I'm gonna stick it out for a little while longer and see what happens. But insure do miss Louisiana sometimes!

AT&T

scott craft 05-13-2011 06:51 PM

I was with AT&T for several years, but I have been with Verizon for the last two. The pro's of Verizon are reliability of service. In Moss Bluff, Lake Charles , Westlake and Sulphur I do not drop calls. The negatives: coverage area in sw LA not as broad as AT&T and no voice and data at the same time, except with the HTC Thunderbolt.
Verizon is getting a lot of the Centennial towers and they are going on air at the end of July. From what I've seen this will give Verizon service in Beauregard parish, Lake Arthur and Welsh area and around Oakdale. If those towers are as reliable as the current Verizon towers Verizon will be probably the best carrier around this area by far.

If you have ATT watch yourself down on the coast , signal gets hijacked by petro com and it runs the bill up in a major way.

meaux fishing 05-14-2011 12:33 AM

the further north you go the better verizon is... All my friends around the Monroe area have better service in the woods than me with verizon, but when they come down here as soon as they get out in the country their signal sucks. I have at&t and dont have any problems though
