new f-150 ecoboost

Does anyone have the new f-150 ecoboost? I'm gonna be buying a new f-150 this week and I am seriously considering the new ecoboost engine.

I heard you say 1 wrong thing.... New engine.... Let em work out the kinks first

Raymond 05-15-2011 09:05 PM

Does the Eco boost come in the v-8 also?

fishaholic82 05-15-2011 09:19 PM

no its only in the v6 version. it is new but from what I've read Ford has tested it for the last few years before puttin it into production. The numbers are better than the 5.0 v8 motor just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with this new engine besides just test driving it.

flounder_smacker 05-15-2011 09:41 PM

i drove one this weekend at the dealer show in lafayette. deff will be buying one in the near future. the ecoboost beats all half tons in torque and gets better fuel millage. dont know anyone personally who has one but ive been doing a lot of reading on them and no problems reported so far.

Blue Wave 2200 05-15-2011 09:42 PM

A friend has a new Mustang with a redesigned engine. Not sure if it's a Eco Boost. Would not accelerate a couple of weeks ago. Did not leave him stranded, but had no strong acceleration. Took it to the dealer and they could not figure out the codes it was giving them. They had to get with the factory to figure it out. Ended up being a cam shaft sensor. Back on the road running fine now. Just took a few days for them to figure it out.

BArmand 05-15-2011 10:04 PM

I am thinking about buying one myself, but it's hard to pull the trigger on something that hasn't been out for long. I test drove one the other day and it was the nicest Truck I have ever driven. My mechanic did tell me there some issues with gas vapors escaping due to lack of a gas cap and advised me to wait a while until they get things worked out.

carrolhebert 05-15-2011 10:40 PM

I have a guy that works with me and he got one a month ago he is a big time fisher and pulls a 24ft blazer bay all day long with out any problems and he told me he burns less fuel then is 5.4 did oh and it a 4x4

weedeater 05-16-2011 12:11 AM

fishaholic82 05-16-2011 05:46 AM

That shouldnt be hard to do, that 5.4 is a gas hawg

Dink 05-16-2011 07:53 AM

I went looking for them at the auto show......never found one....I don't get the "no gas cap" thing.......looks like a big problem down the road. There's nothing to keep the dirt and water out.......seems like a really stupid idea to me.....

cmdrost 05-16-2011 08:25 AM

I have driven them. Much smoother than my 2010 5.4. I'd get one!

BIRD DOG 05-16-2011 08:33 AM

fishinpox is right!dont ever buy the first year of any vehicle.
Yea the 5.4 is a gas hawg but its a beast! Mine has 160,000 miles and have never had a problem, not with anything!

i know someone that has one and he said there is a metal flap that has to be pushed down, not sayin it will keep stuff out but he says its not real easy to push

fishaholic82 05-16-2011 08:34 PM

Well I picked up my new truck this afternoon and its got some serious power. The back seat has plenty of room and the truck rides awesome. I couldn't be happier with my new purchase.

five 0 or the v6, either way, ford is the one to go with on new 1/2 tons

calcutta37 05-16-2011 08:42 PM

my next truck will be a ford.

weedeater 05-16-2011 09:21 PM

there's just somthin still about buying a a full size truck with a v-6

Dink 05-16-2011 09:22 PM

I'm done with the gas truck.......test drove a Cummins today. 3500 Mega cab.......it rode better than my 1500!! I was astonished! Thought it would be a kidney crusher......didn't get it tho......I want the 5.9, it had the 6.7.........fuel mileage on the 5.9 is in the 20's, 6.7 is in the low teens......

fishaholic82 05-16-2011 09:24 PM

This my first ford and I couldn't be happier. I've tried dodge, chevy, and toyota and I have no intentions of ever driving anything else but fords from now on.

Trust me go test drive one this V-6 makes the 5.4 look like a Tonka toy. Its pushing 365hp and 420 ft. lbs. torque

LPfishnTIM 05-16-2011 10:34 PM

do you have to fill up with 91 octane or higher. or can you fill up with reg unleaded.

5.9 ended in 2006

bsoileau 05-23-2011 04:08 PM

I test drove one the other day!! I will be getting one very soon

fishaholic82 05-23-2011 05:10 PM

I've already put 1000 miles on mine and I've only had it a week. I love it especially the 21 mpg average.

fishaholic82 05-23-2011 08:30 PM

All I can say is go test drive one before you rule it out.

V6 engines have came a long way. The new non-turbo 3.7 f150 engine has more hp than the previous model 4.6 v8. Test drive before you buy is the only way to decide. I have always been a chevy man,but the new fords are on top the game.

fishaholic82 05-23-2011 09:15 PM

I traded in an 07 chevy silverado with the 4.8 V8 and my new f-150 ecoboost blows it out the water. Not only in mpg but power and towing as well. As soon as my wifes Tahoe is gone there won't ever be another chevy in my drive way. Don't get me wrong some of the older chevy's were great vehicles but their quality has gone to crap in the last few years!

flounder_smacker 05-23-2011 09:21 PM

ecoboost has more torque than all other half tons other than fords 6.2. torque is where your pulling power comes in. it makes 420 at 2500. all the other v8's dont make close to that at 4000. they really are quick too. i drove one a couple weeks ago at the dealer show and every red light i was smoking the tires. my chevy with the 5.3 really doesnt even come close.

LaAngler 05-23-2011 09:26 PM

they need a ecoboost 5.0 now, call it a lightning ;)

That would be sick! Twin turbo 5.0 in a single cab...with a 6 speed manual

Comparing apples and oranges.

Ford currently has the ecoboost, stick around and observe. The other brands will come out with something that is equal or bests the ecoboost.

Doubt it! I've had 7 fords and one chevy and I'm going back to the ford. Not just engine, everything. Way better truck!

Sometimes it is good to be a doubter keeps things balanced. Sounds as if you choose to be a Ford man. On drive trains alone, manufactures will play leap frog.

Something better always comes out weither it be ford dodge Toyota Nissan or chevy. If I stick around waiting for the better one then I'd be stuck in my old truck forever. As of right now for has the best half ton. If your buying now the ford is the way to go.

Dink 05-24-2011 11:02 PM

I'd be hard pressed to buy a Ford. But the eco-boost may change my mind. Been a Dodge man for a long long time..........
