ckinchen 05-29-2011 08:56 AM

There are a ton of them on the lake, mine is black and grey but I was not fishing yesterday. Black underneath all dark grey on top. You know it is me, only one with a verado and talon.

Interesting, I have not seen another Haynie on big lake with a verado. I only know of four others in Texas. Chris only sells a few verados per year. I want a yam 300 on my next one.

I saw a Verado getting towed in Fri....New motor and said this is the 3rd time it left him dead in water...

all star rod 05-29-2011 03:29 PM

While we were fishing FRI we saw a Triton with an ObamaOPTI MAX being towed by another boat which was identical to the one broke down. I would assume they were guide boats!

You told me to get the Yam, which is what i wanted. Chris wants nothing to do with Yam's so it was hard to go that route. We have a new sponsor coming on board next week that can put either on a Haynie and has put both a 250SHO and Yam 300 on Haynie's with great results. That Yam 300 is faster than my Verado 300.

if the result = catching fish when plastic isn't, then I don't care. But I like to trick a fish with a plastic bait more often but if i'm fishing with someone using live and there catching and im not, I'm gonna switch and start catching!

Mercury 300XS faster than all and the 250XS(not pro) is more than likely second. But my next motor will be a 4 stroke as I hate buying oil so I'm thinking a 23LS with a Yamaha 250SHO will fit the bill.

From what I have seen the Verado is slightly ahead of the 250XS but I guess it depends on the boat. They are very close in everything except price adn weight. The 250XS is way ahead of the Verado in both....

Everyone I know that has worked with the 250SHO has great things to say about it. If you go that route I bet you will be happy.

evis102 05-30-2011 06:49 AM

Mercury has got to be working on a motor like the Yamaha SHO but if they are they keep secrets better than the CIA

skeeter77346 05-30-2011 06:53 AM

LMC in Houston has sold several Haynie / SHO rigs. Good guys, who know their stuff.

That proves nothing...anything paid for by Gov just means who gave a kick back or better price!

That's how Gov works....they get bids from at least 5 company's and usually take middle price..

My wife worked for the Police Jury for 8 years and they are price whores....what can we get the most of for the money!!!

I rather judge a motor by who depend on it to make them a living everyday!!!!! Like Guides or Oil field work Boats...

It goes by bid. Many of the coast guard boats I have worked on had Honda. Now ask the wildlife and fisheries how much they like their verado boats. Nothing but electrical headaches.

I have only been in one boat with a Honda...it was a 24ft Trition...I'm sure they make a good motor but it was slow slow slow....wide open 45mph....

I rode in that same boat you are speaking of, Hackberry Charters now owns it. That is a VERY slow boat. Cruise at like 32 max 44ish.

Dink 05-30-2011 07:06 PM

You know what I don't get? Honda bikes turn like 14k rpm's........they run super smooth and strong. Why not put that inline 4 into a boat motor!!???? Dependable 4stroke power!

different loads, cooling method, the high rev redline is within the bike engines short term operating parameters

the outboard is designed to run at 6k all it's life

longcast 05-30-2011 07:15 PM

I use to kill Honda 1000rr with my yamaha r1. Not a Honda fan.

Dink 05-30-2011 07:17 PM

Well, if it can turn 14, it should have no prob running 6 all its life.....water cooled is water cooled

mikedatiger 05-30-2011 07:21 PM

I've been on a River Monster tv marathon tear and it looks like wherever in the world that guy goes they are running Yamma Hamma's...

Its due to come out at the end of the year. I had a 24' Triton with a 225 Honda. Top speed was only 52mph but it was quiet, fuel efficient and reliable. Also I never found any trace of gas in the oil. I'm still a year out from my next boat but I can not wait to see the on water test.

LPfishnTIM 05-30-2011 10:30 PM

those hondas might be slow and not that powerful, but they get awesome gas milage. there probably overpriced too!

evis102 05-31-2011 06:29 AM

I never really judge a motor by how it runs on other people's boats. Very few people invest the time and money to get the most from there boat and motor.
