Put a hot wire around it. He will get the hint. Not talking about frying him, just a little tingle makes a big difference. :work:

Wireless fence, my lab loves to go Visit everyone when I'm not home, have used them for several Labs, it's the ticket, just make sure you follow the directions on training him for it

evidrine 06-09-2011 09:52 AM

HAHA! Thats what my dog used to do. Couldnt keep her in there for nothing. She did everything except dig underneath it.

cajunkersh 06-09-2011 09:54 AM

Another question is, is that black rubber mats he is on. That get way to hot to be on if it is.

evidrine 06-09-2011 09:56 AM

Looks like plastic pallets?

Raymond 06-09-2011 10:05 AM

I had one destroy a gate before, he was not the sharpest tool in the shed. Hotwire would be my suggestion and I would turn it up! This dog is probably very bored, spend more time with him and if possible put a radio close enough to the kennel for him to hear it. Talk radio should work, no rap, or heavy metal. Might also want to invest in a welded panel kennel ($300), tractor supply has them and they are far superior to the chain link you have.

He's only in there when i'm at work and he gets plenty of exercise everyday ...... maybe i'll turn the radio on for him!!!

It's plastic pallets that i got courtesy of Wally world...... I was going to paint them, but he's always got shade and he's got a pool to cool off in!!!

Feesherman 06-09-2011 10:30 AM

Either hot wire or take a day off and put a shock collar on him. Watch him from inside the house and every time he so much as touches the fence, you nail him. It won't take long.

I have the wireless fence already just got the kennel to keep him from tearing everything up....... which he's broke out everyday this week and hasn't been chewing anything up..... so i may just let him stay out and see how he does...

Leave him balls & toys plus rawhide bones to keep him occupied....When they get bored is when they tear up stuff!

evidrine 06-09-2011 10:56 AM

Tore my kennel down. Keep her on a chain while i'm not home. She's good about being loose, just cant keep her from knocking over trash cans. She's terrible for that. Tried the shock collar but never does it while im around. Started locking my trash cans up so she would leave them alone, she just goes after the neighbor's cans then. Will eventully have to go with the wireless fence.

I bought a wireless that, uses radio no wire to bury, works good till battery dies which is about every 2 months.

PaulMyers 06-09-2011 11:25 AM

Josh, just let Totsie have him for a couple of days. That should take care of any issues you are having. LOL

cajunforeman 06-09-2011 01:03 PM

adamsfence 06-09-2011 02:04 PM

a .22 cal bullet right behind the left ear should do the trick josh...... load it up and come up here and we will change the wire out. that is some cheap 12 gauge wire. i got some he wont chew threw

joshdomingue 06-09-2011 02:06 PM

Same here. Had a lab that would dig holes everywhere to get in the cool dirt. Tried the Red Pepper thing with no luck. Started licking it as I was spreading it.

adamsfence 06-09-2011 02:28 PM

also don't buy that spray stuff from tractor supply. i put a whole bottle out where mine was digging and soon as i got finished he went and laid in it

I had a dog that would grab the gate and pull it until he twisted the latch enough to open the gate. I went to the feed store and bought a "fido fence" package. Strung the wire in a zig zag pattern on the gate and hung red ribbon on it, gave him a few hours to get used to it and check it out good. I then plugged it in and sat back and watched. When he went to grab the gate it nailed him, he tried a couple more times and learned not to try it. After that I would hang red ribbon where I didn't want him to be and he would stay clear of the ribbon.

Mine would do the following..

-Push kennel off the slab, and fit underneath
- Chew thru just like yours did.
- Knock the hinges off the gate somehow

They aint dumb no.

Same kennel as yours

iron man 06-09-2011 08:03 PM

Mine is too dumb to figure out how to chew through it or dig under it so she just stays in. My other dad put an electric fence around the whole kennel. If you do that, be sure its off before you open the gate cuz that doesn't feel too good.

Duck Butter 06-09-2011 08:33 PM

My lab sleeps in the bed:(

Ray 06-09-2011 08:39 PM

My dog chewed up the fence a few times, but never got out.
He did get out by chewing thru the aluminum tie wire that holds the fence bottom to the pipe.

We would let our dog out the kennel during the day and put him in at night.
We had a fan by the back door and during the summer, he layed up in front of the fan all day long. If we turned it off, he would dig up the back yard.

joshdomingue 06-10-2011 08:23 AM

ok so i fixed the hole (i hope) and made his kennel a littl more luxurious ........ he now has a fan and a radio to go with his pool......

Rubb it down with vegatable oil and pour cayenne pepper on top but he will probably just chew somewhere else. Maybe try hog wire or something stronger.

I did that to a horse that chewed on a wooden gate.
Didn't stop him.

bjhooper82 06-11-2011 10:32 PM

i tried red pepper on my lab a few times. she licked it all up and was looking for more!! i guess shes a true cajun dog. lol

Hebert 06-12-2011 03:51 AM

hot wire.. is a done deal

Big Ridge 06-12-2011 04:47 AM

Go to Curry feed on broad st in Lake charles and check out there dog kennels made by Behlen Country, Magnum welded wire kennels, I guarantee he will not chew thru that cage, It is made with 1/4 inch panel wire, this kennel will hold Mike the Tiger. A little pricey but it is the best kennel all hot dipped galvanized. If he is worth anything to you this will hold him. Website www.behlencountry.com

Just finish your fence and won't have to worry about a kennel.
