what he is saying is true, although what he is saying is incomplete. Fly fishermen are having trouble finding hackle because hair salons are using it as a new feather extension.

Heard that over the weekend. One of my buddy's wife has that crap in her hair.

I heard that the feathers they use are the same ones all the girls are putting in their hair...and its putting a short of them

Yeah its crap. A normal cape of hackle feathers goes for 60 bucks, some fly shops are getting upwards of 300-400 from salons. Some fly shops are refusing to sell to women that come in asking for the feathers and stockpiling them for thier regular customers. Its just a fad, and like most fads it will go away

yeah feather extensions are the fad, girls are paying $4-8 a feather strand to be put in there head!

as a fly f@g I can tell you that this is going to be a serious problem for a lot of the commercial tyers for freshwater. fortunately, for those that tote the long rod in the salt, we "usually" use feathers from a different part of the rooster. Not that anyone cares, just came out of hiding..

This is true, the hackles that are used as hair extensions are the long saddle hackles. Most saltwater fly tiers, such as myself use the shorter neck hackle
