Jig Heads?!?
Im looking for some jig heads to buy in bulk. I have been using and really like the Norton Shad Head unpainted jig heads but they tear my bait up after 4 fish or so the head of the bait gets cut and is no mo good, and you cant order them in bulk.
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u...shad_head1.jpg Im looking for something like this Salt Striker basically but unpainted and no eyes :help: http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u...chram/salt.jpg Thanks!! |
Check with marshworks.. dude they have some bad to the bone jig heads. Fished with em the other day in the 1/8th oz. Style and caught 25 trout and changed baits once. They can keep a nice hold

By far superior to others. They have a redfish jig head that all I can say is a nasty mofo.
|
That Bull Red one dosent seem like they will hold your bait to well these could work though. Im gonna give them a shot
|
Go see Obie in sulphur

you should guess weights at the carnival if you can feel the difference in hundredths of an ounce... |
I am using some that I got from the Tackle Bos. It has 3 rings on it and holds the bait very well

If you're looking for unpainted in bulk, go to Cajun Fast Mart in Carlyss.
|
Not red hook, but I am fairly certain they did have them in red.

we have the ring-shank jigheads in bulk 25 and 50 packs at the tackle box in sulphur.. they hold baits like jerk jr's and gulp so much better because the lead doesn't have a sharp point, that sharp point on other jigheads just rips the back out of a bait when the fish grabs the bait and you pull forward.
shaw, if you don't like the ones we have, try the gene larew high tide series.. they have a similar ring-shank design and a sharp, strong hook. ;) I'm going to bring my meter to work tomorrow.. I'll tell you to the thousandth what they weigh. :grinpimp: |

I really never under stood the purpose of colored or fancy jig heads....Not cutting one from another but
I use basic 3/0 1/4 Gamakatsu jig head............and 2/0 1/8 Been using them for 25 years I buy them bulk for about 44 per 100..... But If Im just targeting reds I will use Marshworks or Micahs hooks |
Thanks for the info fellas!

Heres why I switched to MarshWorks jig heads in the first place.. Before, I was a gamakatsu man. Yes, they are very sharp, do they hold up? No. I've broken countless #'s of them on bigger fish, right at the bend of the shank.
I've yet to break a MarshWorks. Just sayin'. |

I agree with the marshworks redfish jigs, they are awesome I've bought a few packs of them and they held up very good against every fish i've caught on them, I have bought .25 cent jigs at bowie out fitters in baton rouge that weight 3/8oz I bought 40 of them for $10.00 3 years ago and I only have a couple left from bringing my buddies fishing, this fall I'll probably be buying more since I probably won't be going saltwater fishing till I get a new motor.

I bought 100 from micah, very nice jigheads. Need some 3/8 though....

I agree that those points are too much trouble. I take some wire cutters and cut those points off any of the jigheads that I think would tear up a bait leaving just enough to hold the bait on. I bought some of those unpainted Norton's on clearance and cut the points off every one of them. The H&H unpainted jigheads are just about as good as any to use too. They've held up just fine for me for many moons. |
Why not cut/trim the metal barbs with some cutting pliers? This will definately save your plastics longer... at least until you get your new lead heads.

I ended up just grabbing a big bag of Micahs 1/8oz headz, we shall see how good they be!

After a bit of conjecture about the weight of certain leadheads, I decided to weigh 7 popular lead jigheads, that are all marked 1/8oz. on the label, and report the definitive results... here they are:
As we all know, 1/8oz. = .125oz./3.54g., 3/16oz = .187oz./5.31, 1/4oz. = .250oz./7.08g. Our most popular jighead, the generic ball-jighead was closest to 1/8oz, weighing in at .14oz./3.9g. In a distant second place and more than a full gram heavier, is the Strike King flats jighead weighing in at .17oz./5.0g. Coming in third is the Gene Larew High Tide jighead at .18oz./5.3g. In a tie for fourth are Yellowmouth Baits and Norton's... both weighing in at just over 3/16th of an ounce or .19oz/5.4g. Fifth place goes to the Shrimphead jighead with a weight of .20oz./5.9g. And finally, the heaviest jighead weighed was the Bass/Salt Assassin jighead. Weighing in at just .02oz. shy of 1/4oz.. .23oz/6.6g.! |
That'll shut em up...for a minute
|
Thanks for the info, just looking at the assassin jig more like a 1/4 oz
|
One thing I dont like about those jigheads is that they are too short..the hooks. I started making my own with a eagle claw 630-2/0. They work great due to the longer hook . I just modified my jighead mold to make em. I dont loose tails or ends of my bait cause instead of the fish rippin off the tail it now gets hooked. I will post a pic of them later. I just made 175 this afternoon in 1/8 and 1/4 ounce. They hold up to reds also. Caught a bunch of 30-36 inch bulls on em already.
