Catching a Armadillo

4 Attachment(s)
So about 3 days ago I noticed something was screwing up my flower beds and landscaping. As days went by it got worse and worse. I decided to setup two game cams in the flower beds. I went and got a trap today and gonna try to catch ****ing thing tonight. Wish me luck!

Kenner18 06-22-2011 02:56 PM

Good Luck.

SaltERedneck 06-22-2011 02:57 PM

Thats what i wanted to do, but Animail Control said they will come pick it up and take the trap back so i said what the heck. Let them deal with it.

Wide Open 06-22-2011 02:59 PM

6pack and a 22 is what im thinkin. just like deer hunting.

huntin fool 06-22-2011 02:59 PM

Just shoot it..

bsoileau 06-22-2011 03:00 PM

Its coming out at different times and if I didnt have so much going on then i would. Drinking beer with a gun in my hand sounds like fun, but I have work and dont feel like wasting my time waiting on no dam armadillo

wtretrievers 06-22-2011 03:03 PM

Moth balls will make him go away.....he'll move over to the neighbors yard ;)

Ray 06-22-2011 03:03 PM

Early evening, right before dark.
Or early morning right after dark.
Not easy to catch in a live trap.
I'd say choot 'em too.
When you choot 'em, they jump.

Duck Butter 06-22-2011 03:03 PM

What bait you gonna use?

The whole leprosy thing scares me about armadillos, but I 'worked with' some people last year that would drop everything they were doing if an armadillo was around. They would gang up and chase it, and if it went in a hole they would dig it out. Says its just like pork:eek:

They are fun to chase around though, get a welding glove and grab one by the tail and chase people with it.

bsoileau 06-22-2011 03:05 PM

They told me to buy worms and sprouts and bait it with that.

Yep, they ain't too trap happy. My neighbor had coons living in her attic and I trapped em for her. Caught 3 the first night, gave em to a friend who eats em, but the next week I caught a couple opossums, and every neighborhood cat at least once:rotfl: Those coons are pretty smart, they see the others in the trap and they avoid it. I kinda liked watching them in my backyard and my dog liked to tree em, so I gave em a break.

bsoileau 06-22-2011 03:07 PM

Someone also told me that i didnt even need to bait it. If i just set it up he said just to set it up along the house with 2 2x6's spread out going to the trap because they are blind.

Ray 06-22-2011 03:09 PM

Live traps don't work good on armadillos.
Use some nutria traps. They catch everything.

wtretrievers 06-22-2011 03:11 PM

Trip wire & C4 will get em also....;)

calcutta37 06-22-2011 03:11 PM

choot it

fishinpox 06-22-2011 03:13 PM

Put a pile of meth in there trap it then get drunk n watch it freak out all tweaked out in a cage,it prolly have a heart attack.....

Kenner18 06-22-2011 03:13 PM

I have walked up to them and kicked em before ,so I would think if they arent blind they pretty darn close.

Wide Open 06-22-2011 03:14 PM

I like whatching dem jump when shot LOL

pmckee318 06-22-2011 03:14 PM

don't touch him

those damn things carry leprose, don't touch him if you catch him or kill him:shaking:

bsoileau 06-22-2011 03:15 PM

I thought about pouring gas down the hole and covering it up. Then i thought about it and it would probably kill all my plants!

Top Dawg 06-22-2011 03:16 PM

My dad been havin trouble wit em. Caught a couple in the traps but the traps or out bout 3 weeks before somethin gets in it. Best way to get em is shoot em. Bout 2 in the Mornin. They are almost blind. You have to seethe traps right next to there hole. Helps wit two traps set together at an angle. Good luck

Most fun I think I ever had was at the University Club golf course doing some armadillo exterminating for the grounds keeper! Golf cart, cold beer, Q-beam, 410 shotgun, .22 rifle & 19 dead armadillos by
midnight!!!! The freakin greens looked like a scene from Chainsaw massacre!!!!
That was Kewl!!!!!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: priceless

Ray 06-22-2011 03:26 PM

I have played with young ones before.
I never caught anything from them.
They don't bite.

RatherBFishin 06-22-2011 03:29 PM

Make a funnel with your boards. My dad has great luck with cage traps. He makes a big V that will lead them right into the cage. They are blind and dumb and will almost always take the easy road. Good Luck

Dood, it's an armerdiller not a Hippy. Come by and pickup my sons Gammo, it will do the trick!!

Seeing Spots 06-22-2011 06:48 PM

Board funnels are the way to go,,,at my old house i would set the funnel between the house (Brick wall) and fence...they would walk right into the live trap...Cant catch them at my new house because i dont have a place to funnel them in...They tear everything up

eman 06-22-2011 07:06 PM

5th of jim ,a big net w/ a 8' handle and a spotlight!!!

Big Flounder 06-22-2011 07:14 PM

Man you guys always give me a good laugh after work!!! This is some great ideas/stories!!! I would have to go with the cold beer and .22 Oh yeah good luck man.

wtretrievers 06-22-2011 08:33 PM

No joking......there used to be a guy that caught "armerdillers" (per Raymond) for LSU to do leprosy studies, he got a $100 a piece!!!! Dude! I could make that a profession!!!

speck-chaser 06-22-2011 10:34 PM

yep, gotta use the funnel method, if your trapping. I prefer shooting them though. Ive killed 3 in the last month or so. Got a customer who has been catching them in a trap, then put them in the pond and drown them, cant take shooting them. "go figure" lol. Ive been killing mine at about 11:30-12:30. flashlight and .22 They have been a real problem flower beds lately cuz of the drought. That ground is super hard right now(till the past day or so) and the only thing thats been holding moisture for easy digging is the flower beds,or irrigated lawns.

buoy37 06-23-2011 12:31 AM

My Father had a problem with them tearing up his flower bed also. He had a hard time trapping them. My Mother joking told him to shoot the damn things with his compound bow so the kill would be quiet. He spent the next few nights in a tree stand on a busy street in the neighborhood waiting for the armadillos to show up. He managed to kill'em all.

Seems like I remember seeing this or hearing about it. :rotfl:

iron man 06-23-2011 01:01 AM

Oh we had a problem at my house a few years ago. Seems like the cops were always at our house for gunshots at night/dusk. Turns out, .45s aren't exactly quiet. Killed possums, armored dillers, coons.

You don't need a tree stand.
Sit on the front porch or the tailgate of a truck.
They are stupid animals.

Purple Back 06-23-2011 10:38 AM

A big dog, it works for me.

I don't think my old man was hiding from the armadillos. I think he was hiding from the neighbors.

Plus, I think was looking for an excuse to pull out the tree stand.

Dink 06-23-2011 05:44 PM

Ammonia and water.....find the hole, mix in a bucket and pour it in.....he'll come running out and die right in front of you.....it Burns the lungs up
