Boat cleaning

I am doing some very much needed boat cleaning and since I can only do it after work for about 2 hours before dark today was day 1. Started at the front deck. I pulled the anchor out and washed it, the rope, the storage compartment, and the other storage compartment under the deck. Didn't realize the drain for the front fishing seat pole was stopped up so I took it apart and blew it out. There is a rubber piece that runs all the way around the boat at the top on the outside that is supposed to be white that I have never been able to get white again and it is driving me crazy! Do you guys know if this piece can be cleaned? I have a black and white Nautic Star and was thinking about replacing it with a black one but not sure how it would look or if it can even be replaced. I also plan on replacing the fold down cup holders, rod holders, and speakers to black cause they are all supposed to be white but they have turned yellow. One more thing. What kind of wax do you guys use?

longcast 06-27-2011 09:29 PM

I have a black and white nauticstar also. The trick is to get Mcjaredsandwich to clean it for you. Hahaha. Jk. I can't keep that strip clean either. I use meguiars flagship wax. Seems to work very good.

Pressure washer up close and personal does wonders for that piece

Man that thing has been hit with a preasure washer 100 times and doesn't come clean. I have been taking it to a carwash every time I use it lately right out of the water and hitting it with a brush when I get home.

I know my way around a nautic star. Jason has a few spots that are starting to color a bit...heard star brite does some work but I have never used it. Familiar with that wax longcast mentioned. Make sure to wash your hull nice and good a couple times then use the wax...makes it shine up real nice.

The black on my boat has a few spots only on one side of the boat that are starting to fade. Will the wax take care of that? Do you detail boats?

ryane7 06-28-2011 07:56 AM

clean the yellowed parts of boat with oxalic acid (i bought 10 lbs on ebay only used a few spoon fulls) when you wipe it on just wait seconds and it will just turn white its amazing next rinse with water hose then wax with woody wax
this is the easiest way to clean your boat good luck

I wouldnt say I detail boats, but i get after it with a hand brush, some dawn and a water hose. The fading is probably sue to hard water build up or oxidation. On l
ongcasts boat, the black looked like it had a bunch of spoys on it due to dried water beads. The wax helped a lot with the dullness....brought it to a nice shine. Are you near the lake charles area?

No man. I live in walker. I am doing the same thing with the dawn and brush. I recently joined a dodge forum when I was shopping for a truck and these guys swear by this wax called ***ken wax. It's not pronounced like it's spelled. I'm thinking about trying it out. Google it. They have videos on YouTube too. If it is as good as they say it is, it don't get much easier then that.

Big Flounder 06-28-2011 08:13 AM

Well it won't eaven let me spell the wax. I'll try like this. F U K K E N. It's pronounced fooken

mcjaredsandwich 06-28-2011 08:23 AM

Give it a shot and let us know! Im sure if it works for you then a lot of others would probably give it a shot.

I use my personal washer which seems considerably more powerful especially with a small degree tip

fishaholic82 06-28-2011 09:16 AM

Try the powder tide with bleach laundry soap. Just wet the hull, spread the soap by hand, and the scrub and rinse. It works wonders

iron man 06-28-2011 09:38 AM

Oxy clean. Brothers bullet was turning yellow on the bottom, threw some Oxy Clean on it, and now you need your sunglasses to look at the boat.

weedeater 06-28-2011 10:14 AM

Meguiars NXT wax is some pretty good wax also

We use the Turtle Wax ICE on the Bullet. The black used to be oxidized to gray, wet sanded and waxed and it looks great. Just don't step on it when its wet and its in the water to lip at least a 6 pound fish.

homerun 06-28-2011 06:54 PM

try something called a MAGIC ERASER i believe made by mister clean. it looks like a white sponge. it will bring back anything that has off colored on a boat back to white. i dont think it has chemicals either. dont know how it works but it does.

x2 "The Works" will take the yellow stain off in seconds. I use to use FSR,but now I just spray on The Works & rinse. Make sure to wet the trailer before you start & rinse it real good when done, it will etch the galvanize.

Been knowing about about the chip in the fiberglass but I just noticed the crack. That had to happen in Grand Isle a couple weekends ago cause it wasen't there the last time I cleaned it. Guess it's going to the shop now. And there is a pic of the fading black. Man this makes me sick!!!

Hydro 06-29-2011 08:28 PM

Hard to tell from the pic, but does the stain look like it has set "into" the rub rail ???

Hydro

weedeater 06-29-2011 08:46 PM

not sure about cost but I think I would change the white to black and the hull looks like it just needs a good compound job

It has to be set in cause I have been trying to get it white again for a year. Man when I saw that crack I just stopped cleaning and went inside. I have 4 days off coming up so I plan on trying some of these products you guys told me about and I'm going to have to go by a shop to see how much to fix the damage.

Thats what im thinking. Do you guys know if that piece just slides out or pops out? I guess I have to go by a Nautic Star dealer to find it too.

skeeter77346 06-29-2011 09:32 PM

Try Magic Eraser & Dawn to clean that rail up. Get 'em at any grocery store. Looks like creosote? Hard to tell on the photos. If creosote stains, then I would try some Bug and Tar Remover on a cloth on one spot - maybe a 2 inch section to see if that removes most of it - then wash with Dawn and re-wax if you like it. Get a good glass man to look at the sore spots. Good luck.

We used to fight that same stain on Bell pop-out window trim, straight bleach would turn it a couple of shades lighter for VIP missions and such but it would "yellow" it up worse after time... The only fix was to replace it...

Your fiberglass guy can probably put you onto a different style/color trim... Good luck with the repairs...

Probably just some type of channel that it pops in, holler at southern on repairs for crack

soapman 07-08-2011 03:59 PM

Use an aluminum brightner you can get at most any truck (18 wheeler) parts store depends on the manufacture how stong you can mix it that will remove the discoloration on your hull if you are close to DeRidder give me a call can fix you up 337-794-1829 (USE GLOVES CONTAINS HF ACID ) if you dont fingernails will turn black and blue fill like you hit them with a hammer

fullrutt 07-08-2011 04:19 PM
