Opinions on skeeter bay boat.

Looking at a few, 20ft range. How does it handle in the chop? Is it a dry ride? Etc.

Can't go wrong with the bigger brands. Skeeter, Triton, ranger, etc......

Finfeatherfur 06-29-2011 08:57 AM

Hah! Skeeter bay boats are a joke!!!!!!!!! Go down to Dularge and Cocodrie, they have a ton of them for sale since the dealers down there refuse to sell them anymore and all the old owners can't get rid of them fast enough. Using the hull design of a bass boat didn't work out too well for a bay boat!!!!!!!!!

If you buy one, make sure your dental insurance is paid up, cause it will slap you fillings loose!

IDK what you talking about. we have a 20ft skeeter bay with a 150 yam 4stroke and it is a great boat. Gets up and rolls. handles really well. smooth ride and dry. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. and I would recommend them

Got a 21' skeeter in my shop right now. Belongs to a friend but, we took it out a couple of weeks ago and it handled great. It's the bass boat design though. Handled great, rode dry and with the 200 Yammy on the back it got right on up.

You must have a clone of something!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!

I have rode in 2 of them, and both were crap! People down where I fish are getting away from them as fast as they can. Wet, "slappy" ride, even in a light chop.

I have a 22' with a 225 Yamaha V Max, the boat is nice it is a little slappy in rough water, with any center console in rough water you are standing up and will get a little wet, this can be eliminated with trim tabs. Depending where you fish 20' is just not enough, I wish mine was 24' due to Vermilion Bay is rough most of the time.

alphaman 06-29-2011 09:18 AM

I'm not a person that fishes hard. Just looking nice boat that will last, one that will be safe with 2 maybe 3 people, to go to the reefs on the south side of marsh island. Also I fish big lake and cocodrie area. Sulfur mine raccon point etc. I was looking at buying BRAND NEW! But I seems way smarter to buy a used boat with warranty. And at least 2005 and up. I've been in ruff water with my 17ft predator. Vbay with 15-20 didn't go to far( dry reef) . and big lake I'm.not afraid of getting wet. And I'm not going to be fishing on a bad day either. Just Ur normal day nice 10-15 at the most. and I'm comparing this to fishing in my 17 ft. Bay boat so I know big would be better in those conditions, being that . I dont have a problem in my 17 ft. Boat. In those conditions.

Finfeatherfur 06-29-2011 09:18 AM

Guys, don't get offended if you own a Skeeter Bay Boat!!!!!!! I just gave my opinion on them. They are some nice boats, and Skeeter is a quality company. I just gave my opinion of their bay boat based on what I have seen while in them, and what other owners or former owners have told me in discussion on the ride.

jldsc 06-29-2011 09:24 AM

Im with you on this one Fin, if the hull is anything like the bass boat hull it will beat ya kidneys up on a rough day..But very nice well built boats.

Now, back on topic!

BossHog 06-29-2011 09:34 AM

Their nice boats and all just better have a mouth piece in when it's rough. Their rough riding boats compared to the other brands

Dink 06-29-2011 09:44 AM

Have you looked at blazer bay? No frills solid bay boat!! (I like the rolled Hull) they're light and can take ALOT of H.P.

Dink 06-29-2011 09:45 AM

Wont break the checkbook either

I own one and agree they are a little rough, great fishing but my next boat will be a 24' Ranger but I am not bashing a Skeeter

If I buy new. I'm set on getting the 2170 blazer bay 150 four stroke. Unless I come across a good deal on a used one. Blazer bay.

A-Man, I would check Lake Guntersville Marine and websites that are geographically located. Search areas like Missouri,Ga,Alabama,Tennasee, ect. Those locations will have used bayboats with very low hours and only fresh water use. I found a 22' shearwater tricked out in Missouri for $30,000 with 15 hours. Go North my son, cheaper prices because of the lower demand.

Skeeter is a solid boat,my dad has a zx 22.He mostly uses it for bass fishing in toledo bend and it suits him well. I will say it does not take the chop compared to boats like the blazer bay, kenner, frontier, ect. On another hand, the skeeter zx 22V and 24V ride great.

If I was going to buy a boat in the 20-21 range I would go with the 210 frontier. Great ride and cheaper than a 20 foot skeeter!

I like the frontier boats Also, I'm just playing tug a war between buying new vs use! The skeeters I looked at were used.

If you are comparing the zx20 to any of the frontier hulls, frontier hands down for running in the chop!

Raymond 06-29-2011 02:04 PM

Not comparing at all. Just making the decision on buying new vs used. They have some good deals on used though.

I don't know what all the hate is about on the Skeeter Bays but the 24 was built off of a Champion hull with only slight mods to the pad to get the nose up. The weight is distributed differently to make it faster. Does it have a Champion ride? No, but it rides better than a lot of more popular hulls. The early hulls did have stringer issues but since about 03 they have held up well. Everyone has their own opinion about bay boats but I have had experience with the Skeeters and they have been ok.

evis102 07-03-2011 07:49 PM

Skeeter bay boats get the big thumbs down.
