Agreed. Anybody, well most people, that know autobody will know fiberglass work.

southern151 07-09-2011 08:02 AM

No on the big boat. That was at a friend's shop and I didn't wind up helping him on it. He did get it for the weekend though! Looked great! I'll get up with him and see if he took any final pics.

hadabite 08-13-2011 08:14 PM

Olmsted wanted to charge me $6000 for a 3 inche by 1 inch fiberglass repair and to compound and wax the boat. It was only a 17 foot bass boat.

Co-Owner the business is shared with his other brothers and sisters and my dad would be the one that gave you the quote. depending on how bad the repair was and the location it may have gone up to 6000. When he writes the estimate he breaks down every individual step so that the customer knows exactly what he is paying for and why the cost is so high.

Max did a lot of work on my old Chris Craft after Ike.
The boat is 30 years old and he matched the gelcoat perfectly.
Can't tell where any of the damage was after he finished.

If you want to own a boat, you gotta be willing to pay.
Boats ain't cheap and the work on boats ain't cheap either.

Did you do any of the work yourself or did max do it all

pmckee318 08-17-2011 02:12 PM

whiskey bruise

that's good to know, my boat got a pretty good whiskey bruise (GOING THRU THE WEIR) and you could put that black molding back on for me. Where are located, will be pulling it from Hackberry.

I did no fiberglass work. Don't know how.
I replaced my own radar and removed my bow rail, brought it to Sterlings to get a new one built, brought it back and the shipyard installed it.
It has a wood coring on the front deck, didn't want to screw it up any way and have to replace it down the line from water intrusion.
I did what I could to cover my insurance deductible. Insurance paid for the rest.
Insurance paid about $4K. After the shipyard called them, it ended up being around $10K. The insurance was trying to cut me short. Olmstede's saved me a buttload.

I have talked to both Ken and Max, Max seemed to be more on the up and up going to do some of the stringer work myself and get somebody who that has more experience to put the floor in because I want it to look good

Ray 08-17-2011 05:40 PM

They both do good work. They are brothers. Grew up in a boat yard.

cbruno 08-17-2011 06:26 PM

I've never had AAA do any work for me, but have heard good things. I have had Beaumont Fiberglass do work for me as well as several of my friends. They do good work, ready when I needed it and are very resonable on price.

hadabite 08-17-2011 10:16 PM

i dont have a problem with paying to keep a boat up i was just saying that there is NO 3 sq in fiberglass repair and a compound and wax job worth $6000. not on a 17' boat anyway.

BIRD DOG 08-18-2011 11:57 AM

I do fiberglass work for a living and that sound way too high!! I just put stringers and a floor in a 18'Kenner,plus custom console and complete gelcoat job for $4500!
