Grand Isle Info

I will be heading to GI the 14th-18th and need a little advice. Rented a camp on the island. If anyone has been lately please post up or PM me any info that might help catch a few fish. Some areas to try, any go to baits??? We will be surf fishing. I have a 20' Express bay boat. Is it worth pulling it down, any places I can fish out of it? I have not been to the island in several years and need some help. Thanks for any info. Jason

Fouchon also has alot less yo yos running around doing the anchor toss.

Go to fourchon run out of snake bayou into timbilier bay fish calumet, casse tete, e timbilier islands . North wind fish the gulf side, south wind fish the north side west wind yer pretty much screwed cuz it dirties up the water. If u run out on the gulf side of e timb. Watch for the rocks/ submerged rocks they will ruin yer day quick! Lots of birds working in the bay right now . If u get under 5 mph south wind or and north wind fish the beaches on the rock barges or in between the sand bars ., pretty water this weekend on the backside of east timb. N big specks . I used to have same boat n I did fine in these areas

If you fish Grand Isle, don't fish around the island.
Go east, way east. Stay away from the crazies.

GreatCatch 07-10-2011 08:54 PM

Kayak

i will be in Grand Isle at the same time, does anyone have any suggestions on where i can fish with a kayak?

skeeter77346 07-11-2011 04:35 PM

A few ideas +/-
1) Tie your gear down and make a paddle from the east end (SandDollar Launch) and cross the Barataria channel and get behind the old fort on the bay side (look at a Google Earth map). The channel has steady boat traffic so be advised. Fish that first flat immediately behind the fort and pick your way east. There is a small rocked inlet channel to a research station that is off limits (clearly posted) but you can paddle and work around those rocks - no problem.

2) Another thought is launch at the Port Fourchon public ramp and fish the bayou cuts in and around that area.

3) Just off of LA1 on the way to GI between Leeville and GI you will see a few short bridges with pull off areas where small boats put in - may be worth a shot, too. Not sure about vehicle security though.

4) Launch at Gulfstream Marina and paddle east working the rocks eastward and then the broken shallow marsh immediately behind the island - great kayak water, too shallow for most boats.

Look at your Google maps for marsh details. Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys. Most was for Fourchon, must be better fishing than GI. About how far is it by boat from Bridge Side Marina to E. Timbalier Island? What is the best plastic baits for GI area?

Just trailer your boat... Less traffic at the landing and more backdowns, better to run out the back way from fourchon if it's windy that way u can fish the backside of the islands . But if u wanna run it and it's calm u could run it in 30 min but watch out for the rocks some are 200 yards off the island out in the open just below the surface

justwant2fish 07-12-2011 07:14 AM

Went to leeville last sunday...had no boats around. Killed em at the wellheads around philo and northwest (if ya wanna run that far). We had good luck on chartreause and did do some live minnows. Most specs 18 inches.

Motor runs great. Lots of power for that boat, but not alot of speed.
