Lake Chuck Duck 07-14-2011 06:23 AM

No price on that chronarch? What do they usually run?

D series were 299
Now the E series are down to 199

Lake Chuck Duck 07-14-2011 06:30 AM

In other words, out of my range? I just picked up my first curado and that thing is ridiculous. I can only imagine how bad arse the chronarch must be. Wonder why such a price drop...

bayouchub 07-14-2011 08:46 AM

Shimano downgraded their whole line, new chronarch is the old curado.

So the curado is the old Citica? Find that hard to believe

bayouchub 07-14-2011 09:20 AM

No, they changed frame on the citica

SaltERedneck 07-14-2011 09:21 AM

soo the chrony is the curado and the citica is the citica..... whats the curado???

bayouchub 07-14-2011 09:39 AM

Curado is the curado, just a step down from last curado.

SaltERedneck 07-14-2011 09:40 AM

just bought two old 50's... figured they were stepping down. got em for cheap cheap. brand new. NO REFURB. NO EBAY. lol

Good move

Salty 07-14-2011 09:52 AM

Let me make sure I got this straight...........

Shimano has found a way to make their Chronarch better than their previous model and retail it for $100 less? Maybe they should take a shot at solving the national deficit.

I agree with this....shimano was smart for doing it too, they will sell much more reels now IMO.

Maybe you shouldn't base the performance and durability of a Chronarch on this economy model that's about to hit the market.

Maybe so. I meant smart for doing it from a business stand point. They will sell the Chronarchs like they were selling the Curado and now sell X2 the Curados.

Wide Open 07-14-2011 10:22 AM

I've had The newer style Curado, Chroni, and Core, and now only have the Core's. 2 100, and 3, 50mgs, with zero probs or failures in 4 yrs. they r more expensive, but r bad to the bone. I only used Calcutta 200GTB's for the longest time till I tried the cores, and now im sold. I still use my GTB's for fishing big trout at rigs, and winter time reds, but the cores r my go to reels. Nothing wrong with the Chroni or curodo, but didn't seem near as smooth or solid than the Cores. JMO.

Didnt like it either Salty, Didnt bring it up, cause I knew Id catch slack for the price of the core. I felt I got just as good of a reel out of the core in a smaller frame than the Cali. thats just my opinion. The way I look at it is I work to damn hard for my money to be here for such a short time not to fish with some of the finer equipment offered today. The Cali is a damn nice reel, but I feel its not near as good as priced or expected. just my2 cents

Wife bought me one before we got engaged.....I bought the ring not long after, lol.

SaltERedneck 07-14-2011 10:38 AM

I have fished with the calais and just couldnt see spending that kind of cheddar for it.... would be nice to have dont get me wrong. havent touched a core (bucket list). reels are like shoes for girls. cant just get a pair that works lol. gotta be top notch. I gotta watch how i spend money when it comes to reels. i would bankrupt myself.

X2 Ive got way to many rods n reels, than one man needs! its addicting:rotfl: lets just say 5 people could fish in my boat, at 6 rods n reels a piece. :shaking:

Actually, there isn't a big difference in price of the Calais and Core. The Calais has some disadvantages, however. It's heavier and wade-fishing with it is a big no-no. It is so finely machined that there is absolutely no tolerance for a grain of sand. I have one that has been "super tuned" and I swear to ya....that thing will free spool for what seems like 5 minutes.

HAHA my bass rigs are like that... i dont wanna ever tie on new baits soo i got a rodnreel for each setup. Keep my saltwater setups light.... 2 rods 2 reels and a third if i know we are fishing specs and reds.
