Pending junior world record cobia caught in Chesapeake Bay
We might call it a ling or a lemonfish, but I would definitely call this thing HUGE, whether you're 7 or 77 years old!
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...P7150008-1.jpg http://vbsf.net/2011/07/18/brandon-d...-record-cobia/ Grafton VA – VBSF wishs 7 year old Brandon Drewry a big congratulation on landing New Pending World Record Cobia. Brandon was fishing the Chesapeake Bay last weekend. Dr Ken Neill was called to Grafton Fishing Supply to verify the catch. At 79-pounds Brandon’s cobia catch beats the current Small-Fry World Record by a half pound. The current record holder, Ken Braddy, who was there to help weigh the fish. The paper work is being filled out for a new record application which should result in a new world record cobia. |
Saw one that big last weekend.
|
I had one like that trying to eat my snapper everytime we would bring one up one time. Never could get him to take a hook though

Monster fish

Mother Sucker! That tang is huge!
|

is this an all time world record or just a junior world record? I thought I saw larger cobia...
|
Congrats on the cob lil dude....fish of a life time!!!!!
|
Its just a junior world record...its "only" a 79 lb cobia. But can you imagine a 7 year old actually pulling in a 79 lber all by himself?

found this site off google and saw this article on my son. and yes its "just" a 79lb cobia.. and its "just" gonna be a IGFA small fry world record if all the paperwork is approved. this was his 4th time going cobia fishing and only his 3rd cobia he has caught. we were sight fishing when i saw this cobia and we caught him on a live eel and the fight only lasted about 5min. once the fish was hooked he swam right to the boat then around the bow then down the side of the boat and was gaffed and brought aboard by my buddy. we thought it was about a 50-55lb fish til she was in the boat and we knew she was close to 80lbs.. here are a few more pics

Tell your son we said congratulations!!!!!!!!
|
i defenitly will let him know, im sure he will want to see the post and pics. every time he see's the pics and an story he laughs and gets excited. he doesnt fully know whats going on except that he caught a big fish and will get a citation plaque like the one's that i have.. if apporoved by the igfa we will have the fish mounted for him to go with all the pics and paperwork and plaques and newspaper articles

That's awesome. Congrats to your little buddy!!

once in a lifetime there congrats dad!
|
awesome story and congrats on the fish! We had a similar experience once. Hooked about a 50 lb fish that had a twin swimming right beside her on the surface. Hooked the second fish and she swam right to the boat. Gaffed it before it knew it was hooked. The other lemon took about 30 minutes to get in.
|
congrats to the kid!!! thats awesome
