I am getting my first boat next week. I just wanted to introduce myself because I am sure I will be asking everyone's advice soon enough. I have never really fished Louisiana's coastline although I work in coastal restoration so I am up and down the coast every week. The only real saltwater fishing I have done is off the west coast of Florida fishing for grouper and other rock bed fish. I have been a freshwater fisherman for almost my whole life. I am looking forward to learning the spots and techniques to catching fish in saltwater.

I am getting a 2008 Carolina Skiff J16 with a 25 hp Suzuki four stroke. I am really excited I have been wanting a boat for a while. I finally found one that was a great deal and the wife agreed to buying it. I would have hated to sleep in the boat it is a little small for that.

I am thinking I will try around Hopedale since a guy that works for me fishes down there quite a bit. I also want to try around Port Fourchon I work with a guy that used to fish there a lot. Other than that I don't know many spots so I will have to learn.

Montauk17 08-14-2009 06:50 PM

Thanks a bunch Bob. That is very nice of you to offer up information for someone you don't know. Once I get the boat and am ready to start fishing I will get with you and try to locate some areas.

Montauk17 08-14-2009 10:06 PM

The suzuki four stroke's are great motors....they are by far the fastest four strokes on the market as well as reliable. Yamaha is a very close second when it comes to four strokes. Hope you catch plenty of fish dude, let us know how you do.

Mediumheavyaction6'6 08-14-2009 10:06 PM

I sure hope you show up to work on Monday since you own me. Please come to work oh great one.

yak'em-n-stack'em 08-14-2009 10:08 PM

Meh. I might. Hey post your bass on a new thread

Hopedale Hustler 08-14-2009 10:10 PM

willey howd u make out today??

yak'em-n-stack'em 08-14-2009 10:15 PM

Not to hijack. But

did ok I guess. Could have for better. Got to the dam with about 1 hour left on the tide and walked across to the gulf side. Picked up 10 keeper specks and a lot of throebacks. One of the guys caught the biggest sheepheas I've ever seen. Easy 8 pounds. A few rat reds. Guys next to us kept 30 or so but where there way before us

Montauk17 08-14-2009 10:20 PM

I work at a marine repair shop in lafayette, and I havn't seen anything mayjor go wrong with suzuki four stroke unless it was the operator's error. Some of the suzuki two strokes are a differant story though lol We had a customer at the shop this week with a 300 zuke on a everglades, talk about sweet.

Hopedale Hustler 08-14-2009 10:22 PM

nothing with any size..??..if u go back get a few live croakers..big ones..and toss em on the bottom..ok yall can have yalls thread back..

coachlaw 08-14-2009 11:29 PM

Hustler could show you 'round Hopedale for sure. It's hard to find a bad spot in La. As far as working on coastal restoration, I sure hope something can be done. Between the Corps of Engineers, the levees, and the pipeline canals, I fear the damage has already been done. My dad has done a lot of work on it. He's a professor at Tulane.

He and I went out of Empire last weekend and we were crushed at how many of our great marsh fishing spots are no longer there at all. :(

I think you'll like the Carolina Skiff. I've never known anyone who had one that didn't like it. - Sandy

Dink 08-14-2009 11:38 PM

What price you gettting that boat for if you don't mind?? There's a 19ft DLX in henderson for sale for 15000...........got a 115? opti on it, VERY low hours, all decked out with everything you need, 2 depth finders(front and rear) new trolling motor, the works................can't even tell this boat has been in the water............it's only 2 years old..........maybe get a better deal onit than what your getting new?? and a 19 is WAY better in the waves out of Fouchon than a 16............My 2cents...............Tim

Mediumheavyaction6'6 08-15-2009 06:27 AM

Getting the boat for 5000. It is a 2008 so it is one year old. I would love to get that bigger boat but I need a house to live in and I can promise that wouldn't be if I bought that boat. The wife loves me but not that much.

eman 08-15-2009 07:43 AM

As long as he stays inside at fourchon he should have no problem w/ that boat.
yak em, He could launch right there where i told you to launch by the bridge and fish most of that area.
Med heavy , You do have a trolling motor on that boat ???

yak'em-n-stack'em 08-15-2009 08:11 AM

yea, i think that area will be our first trip, real easy to launch and get back if there is a problem

Mediumheavyaction6'6 08-15-2009 11:34 AM

Yea, its a minn kota remote control trolling motor I am not sure of the thrust.

redfishman 08-16-2009 08:19 AM

Hopedale is a great place particularly in the fall and winter. There's a place we call 1-qt lake where you can load up on trout and reds and not use more than a qt of gas.

E-man- when can you get "yard leave" ??? I fished offshore with a well known guide to "SCA". Said the trout should becoming thick just west of Gret's runout in a few weeks. Lemme know.....

eman 08-16-2009 09:31 AM

Yard pass
