topwater baits

Seriously, does color really matter on a mullet-type topwater bait? The tackle manufacturers sure take advantage of the fact that alot of fishermen believe it does.

"W" 08-05-2011 08:19 PM

Hell no color don't matter on top water...just throw white or black....all u need rest is a sales perk

fishinpox 08-05-2011 08:23 PM

If it's clean water but cloudy I throw dark any other condition either black, white, or truce. I think the sound is more important

PUREBAY2200 08-05-2011 08:29 PM

As long as it floats on top..... I don't think it matters.
But I would love to see what the top 5 selling colors of topwater lures are .......
W call up one of Ur informants & get that info.

It is. That's why they put rattles in 'em. This "black w/chartreuse head" and "white w/red head" is a bunch o' garbage. Now, sub-surface stick baits are another animal.

Top water was invented by pilgrims....they saw four guys fishing one day...smoking em....one guy had to crap so he floated a turd over board and the tide moved it over to the pilgrims...they saw fish destroy it until it was gone!!! They hollered at the guys fishing and said.......hey what kind of bait was that!!!!! They replied back...topwater,,,

Now that's the rest of the story

Now, just because I know why they put rattles in 'em doesn't mean I know what day they started. :smokin:

I find it hard to believe that Mirr-O-Lure has beat Heddon in overall sales in the past 5 years. The Texas coast alone should bear that out.
