used gun purchase?

Is there any form of registration or paperwork that is required (or recomended by u guys) when you buy a used gun? Im shure the government wants to know right?

Lake Chuck Duck 09-14-2011 03:27 PM

I would do a bill of sale.

specktator 09-14-2011 03:30 PM

In state of LA you don't have to register a gun. When you buy one new all you do is a background check. So, anything second hand doesn't require anything but you could do a bill of sale if you wanted.

probably the best procedure...but you shouldn't need anything.

Taking a concealed weapons class now. Guy told us to get buyers name, date of sale, dl#, gun serial number. Just in case it's involved in s crime.

southern151 09-14-2011 08:19 PM

Paudna's house just got ripped of all his guns today! Best to have a check run on em so you aren't receiving stolen goods!

Get a bill of sale, I bought a shotgun at a gun show and was stopped by the police turns out it was hot I got arrested went to jail spent almost 10k on an attorney and got a few other firearms taken that were not hot. But luckily I had a bill of sale and the charges were finally thrown out and I eventually got my other guns back. Always smart to cover your rear

or a guy named Tiny will cover it for ya:D

evidrine 09-15-2011 08:42 AM

You can make a bill of sale if it will make you feel better, but you really dont need it. If you bought it from a shop or gun show, always keep your sales reciept!!!

PUREBAY2200 09-15-2011 08:44 AM

I got a bill of sale and had it notarized.... Sold all my guns a few years back. My buddy is a lawyer, the notary was his advice.

Its good to protect yourself if that gun is used in a crime, even though chances are it wouldnt be.

PUREBAY2200 09-15-2011 08:54 AM

Exactly. By getting it notarized all three signatures are legal and show possession being transferred.
If those guns were ever used in a crime, that notarized bill of sale would keep me clean!

youu_whoo_whoo 09-15-2011 04:02 PM

Anyone know how u would run the numbers on the gun to check to make shure its not stolen or "hot".

Jordan 09-15-2011 04:20 PM

Might can bring it to a shooting store or a police office and ask them before you buy it.

iron man 09-15-2011 04:32 PM

I got my cousin to run the numbers in his unit the night I bought it.

Is it October Yet 09-15-2011 04:35 PM

It is hard these days to make a fake ID and say you are someone else.

weedeater 09-15-2011 04:40 PM

I would think it would be easy as calling state police and running the ser#

redfishmaster 10-03-2011 10:28 PM

Take it to a pawn shop they can run it for u
