Tried the new chronarch

Not impressed! Nothing more than a white curado 200e7. In fact the chronarch has a plastic drag and spool tension knob where the e7 uses all metal. I hate to see what the new curado and citica will be like. Sucks to see shimano take a downgrade in quality. On another hand I tried the lews tournament pro, awesome reel and cheaper than the chronarch.

BaseballFisherman 09-15-2011 04:47 PM

I agree. Tried a friends's new chronarch a couple weeks ago and noticed virtually no difference between it and my curados. It even looks just like a curado. I have also heard great things about the lews reels and have been looking into getting a couple myself. How did the tournament pro compare to the curado 200 e7?

I like it better, has 11 stainless bearings and only weights a lil over 6 oz. I will be buying one soon!

BaseballFisherman 09-15-2011 04:57 PM

Is the drag as smooth or comparable to the curado? And the thing that keeps me using the curados is the ability to cast into the wind without too much worry of a backlash. Any experience in the wind with the lews? And what are your pros and cons from when you used it?

Montauk17 09-15-2011 04:59 PM

I have not fished with one yet, just casting in the yard.

I am starting to hear some really bad feedback on the new Shimano's from guides in both LA and TX. Say they aren't holding up...

I'll be trying some of the new abu garcia's soon including the new MGX...

Don't you have one of the lews tournament pro's?

mcjaredsandwich 09-15-2011 05:09 PM

Yes, and I love it! But I like trying new stuff and the Abu MGX is next on the list.

I will definitely buy more of the Lew's Tourney Pros and I highly recommend em. Mine has survived this year with no maintenance/cleaning, etc.

Never doubted you one bit....had to check it out myself. Shimano is following the rest of the world, charge more for a cheaper product.

Very light !! Great design!!

"W" 09-15-2011 08:26 PM

Yea yall keep believing there is a better reel out their than Shimano reels...

Ray 09-15-2011 08:53 PM

I have 5 Curado's on rods and 2 in the box, never used.
Set up for a while.

Ron Ardoin bought some off of Ebay and fixed them up.
He bought the Curado's that were pre 200 E-7.
The light green ones. He has a buttload if anyone is
looking.

Nobody said shimano sux..... Just that the new line is lower quality.
I love my cores!

LPfishnTIM 09-15-2011 09:26 PM

I bought a few quantum reels, they're really smooth and great to fish with, but keep em clean and oiled they don't last as long as the shimano, but the smoke is a bad @$$ reel!

I love my cores!

Cores are sweet reels for freshwater but saltwater they suck, I've had mine rebuilt 2-4 times in a year n a half.... Not made to fish the coast. I threw that thing in the garbage

"W" 09-15-2011 09:34 PM

I have been using Cores for 2 years and only had problem with one

huntin fool 09-15-2011 09:35 PM

Go fish that core over in Mike Sheltons area. You will need a new one after.

speck-chaser 09-15-2011 10:25 PM

Anyone trying any of the U.S. reels yet. Ive heard some good reports about the drags and casting performance. Just wondering if they will hold up to the salt.

"W" 09-15-2011 10:30 PM

In case you did not know....saltwater is saltwater...1800ppm at Cameron is the same 1800ppm in Fl or Jamaica or Alaska...

Obviously waters with same ppm /ppt salinity are same salinity.... That coast in Fla has bigger tidal swings bringing in way saltier water inshore

"W" 09-15-2011 10:43 PM

The Ocean adv 35 parts per thousand...

Gulf of Mexico adv about 32 ppt

Two weeks ago before all the rain...big lake was 32 ppt....

Some areas of the Gulf will get to 35ppt but in water depths over 1000 feet

The Max inland is 28 - 32 from Mexico to Fl...

fishinpox 09-15-2011 10:51 PM

I find it hard to believe BL was 32ppt . Terrebonne bay is 15ppt right now . Just sayin..... I could be wrong idk

Montauk17 09-15-2011 10:59 PM

Who cares about water salinity, shimanos quality has dropped on their 2012 lineup....no doubt about that!

speck-chaser 09-15-2011 11:01 PM

well, V.B. is about 5.5 ppt right now!!!! just sayin,, pffftttttt

Water around S. Padre Island gets so salty at times that the fish leave. I took 2 Curados when I went down there and threw 'em in the garbage about 2 months later. Both spools and drags were froze solid. That damn water down there is like battery acid. No way I'd take my good reels down there wading. I'm sure the salinity in Prien was higher, tho.

You are right about the salinity W i saw west cove gets very close to 30ppt very often, but i would think that the clearer water in florida would definitely make fishing more of a challenge in florida, and you probably wouldn't catch as many fish there as you would here. IMO

mstulb 09-16-2011 04:59 PM

Yep

I still have a few of the first aluminum pearl white chronarchs-I get some bearings and gears replaced once a year and I love them. I have several newer green curados and they just dont hold up- I keep those for my sports, but I still have and love my older chronarchs-no reel will out throw it, I pull my brakes back and can throw my spook a mile. New ones I agree have not been impressed with there durability.
