3.5 inch shells

How many of you guys actually shoot 3.5 inch shells compared to 3s and 2 3/4? Im trying to decide weather to drop an extra hundred on a bps for the 3.5 inch option.

speck-chaser 09-23-2011 10:45 PM

all I shoot!!!

Dink 09-23-2011 10:48 PM

I use 3's for big ducks. 2 3/4 for teal

bjhooper82 09-23-2011 11:16 PM

IMO you don't really need it for ducks but it's a nice option to have for geese or even turkey if you turkey hunt.

Kenner18 09-24-2011 04:58 AM

Its All I Shoot ,except during teal season I would shoot 3" . Better to have it and not need it ,than need it and not have it.

Get it, if you ever want to shoot 3.5"s you'll be able to.......

jdm4x43732 09-24-2011 07:47 AM

Yeah just cause it can chamber the 3.5 you can still shoot 2 3/4 and 3". Nice to know if you need the knock down power you have it. Kinda like having a 4x4 truck, might not use it often but nice to know it is available when you need it.

I shoot a Gold Hunter Browning and BPS... I shoot 3 1\2 all the time....teal season also...
I get them for same price as 3inch so I use them for that reason....

Get the 3 1\2 inch......if you goose hunt you will need it!!

biggun 09-24-2011 09:37 AM

I shoot 3.5 alot!! Big late season ducks. Get It!! It's worth the money.

Biggun

"W" 09-24-2011 09:40 AM

Not really...I just don't Choot em close...a few times I blew em up ,,,but no worst than any other close shot...

Top Dawg 09-24-2011 10:43 AM

In my opinion 3.5" is pointless. Most people think just because you have 3.5 you can shoot further which is not true. Only thing 3.5 has is more bbs. I shoot whatever is cheapest. Killed close to 200 specks last year wit 2 3/4" #4s. I have a junky ol nova that I won that I turkey hunt wit and I use 3.5s for that just for the extra bbs. But if u are strictly duck and goose huntin it's pointless waste of money. Decoyin ducks and geese = whatevers cheapest. 3.5" shells are the cause for most skybustin now days.

REEL MAN CHARTERS 09-24-2011 11:15 AM

I have shot both but I would never go back to a gun that would shot just 2 3/4 and 3 inch. The little bit of extra money that is spend on the 3 1/2 is worth it. Its their when you need it and I have used mine more that what I have thought.

DUCKGOGETTER 09-24-2011 11:28 AM

I think it's all personal preference

popawillieq 09-24-2011 12:39 PM

Go for the 3.5". I have the 3" with the 28" barrel, an a friend of mine just got the 3.5" with the 26" barrel and he loves it. The weight is about the same and it's defenatly worth the little extra cost.

Lake Chuck Duck 09-24-2011 01:57 PM

I shoot the browning bps in 3.5 and I love it! We have a goose blind. Early mornin, first 20 min of huntin, I put 2 3/4 in for the early duck shoot. Then once they stop flyin I load up the 3.5 triple bb for the geese. Awesome being able to do that.

know how to blow that speck call you could leave them 2 3/4 inch shells in. Lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jk

speck-chaser 09-24-2011 02:37 PM

All I use it 3.5's We mainly hunt in da swamp,so extra bb's is always helpful shooting through branches and trees. Also helpful killing cripples on da water.

Oh I can blow a speck call plenty good. I mean I dont need to use a .45 for self defense.........but why have to shoot more than once? Am I right?

youu_whoo_whoo 09-24-2011 06:12 PM

thanks for the posts guys when i do get it im pretty shure im gunna get the 3.5 inch with the 28 inch barrel in eather synthetic or camo

huntin fool 09-24-2011 06:24 PM

I just shoot 3's. Little more forgiving than the 3 1/2's on the shoulder/cheek. However, I do keep a handful on 3 1/2s in my bag just incase some geese are low in the marsh. As someone stated, 3 1/2 doesn't give you more distance.. For that, I have my extended full paternmaster! (atleast it makes me feel more confident, thats what counts right? lol)

southern151 09-24-2011 06:28 PM

I have 24 3 1/2's that I'll give ya! Shot one out my Mossberg and , never another! I think I'd rather been standing in front of it! Lol!

youu_whoo_whoo 09-24-2011 07:00 PM

It kicked that bad to make u want to give them up jees.

Shoot a box of them. You won't want anymore of them.

youu_whoo_whoo 09-24-2011 07:06 PM

Even in a gun as heavy as the bps? I kinda like the versitility of being able to shoot all 3 types of shells.

evidrine 09-24-2011 07:08 PM

What did all you guys do before 3.5"? I guess I 'm another that agrees that even though its kinda cool, its not necessary.

Will"E"Fish 09-24-2011 09:15 PM

3 1/2 BLACK Cloud #6 in 1 1/4 oz. ;1 3/8oz. 1 9/16oz. hands down. Fewer cripple'sand better knock down power.

I accidentally got some 3 1/2 lead 10ga shells last year.......geese didn't stand a chance!! Didnt realize till after the hunt........ Wish we could use lead still for everything!!! It works so good!!!

And yes, 3 1/2 10ga is horrible to shoot!!!

Bluechip 09-24-2011 10:44 PM

On a lease we hunted when were kids there was an old man that had a single barrel 10 gauge, thermos of coffee and a yellow lab. He would just park on the road and sit on his tailgate and you would hear that cannon go off.

He regularly ended with a limit of birds one cup of coffee and one shot at a time.

speck-chaser 09-24-2011 11:15 PM

dat copper coated lead is fun!!!

Top Dawg 09-25-2011 12:49 AM

Surely I'm not the only one that shoots decoyin geese and ducks now days?? That's really the only way to shoot em and you don't need 3.5 to kill em. Your always gonna have cripples every now and then but not often when they're close. This was a 2 3/4 #4 this mornin.

Ducedux 09-25-2011 06:47 AM

It is a no brainer to get a 3 1/2" gun over a 3" but stay away from that 26" barrel. Your hunting partners ears will last a lot longer! lol As far as camo vs. synthetic, I prefer the camo but you need to be a little careful with it. Mosquito repelent can take the finish off of the camo guns. My Maxus has a bone colored spot where my cheek rides due to repelent. That still wouldn't stop me from buying the same gun again. It has been the best gun I have ever owned.

I've been shooting the hevi metal shells.......kick like a mule!!! Bruised my shoulder and cheek.....stay away from them!! Im going with a slower shot from now now on

Top Dawg 09-26-2011 06:29 AM

I shoot rios. Got em for $6 dollars a box last year 2 3/4 # 4s. This year I was gonna get some more but all they had was 3" for $9 a box so I went ahead and got a couple of cases of dem.

all star rod 09-26-2011 07:30 AM

Mostly shoot 3", 1-1/4oz 4 and 3, name brand does not matter to me. I keep a few 3.5" shell with me just in case we have to unload/skybust on some geese!

Duck Butter 09-26-2011 08:05 AM

3.5" is for skybusting topwaters:grinpimp:

Kenner18 09-26-2011 08:11 AM

Nothing like those topwaters who get out there and start skybusting in Lacassine. Or the ones who hunt 50 yards away

People who get into duck hunting and don't know anything, but think they do. Buys bands for lanyards, black hoodies, stickers on their guns, usually suck at calling. Many in the younger generation, found on public land.

Also people who can't get their own pond on public land, so try and creep on yours
