Oyster Protest!
 

I've got Oyster Fisherman protesting in the parking lot outside my office in Jennings. They said they are upset out how the permits were handed out on Big Lake. I don't know much about it but maybe you guys do? They are protesting to Dan "Blade" Morrish about the issue.

They saw my CCA plate and sticker and keep saying F CCA...so I made the block..check em out!!!! I was real nice about it!!!! I said tong and you can all work....It was a few young guys, some Vietnamese (I'm glad they can rape our lake) and rambo crew,,,, I don't even think they had oyster boats,,just wanted some Obama hand out action.....

They have signs like we can't work, you stole our jobs...

I wanted to say...you need to get your azz a JOB and stop dirtying up my town with your breath...

There are only 25 protesting, they should be pizzed off at the other 200 that got tickets not Blade. Guess they have not heard the lake is off limits for the forseeable
future because of their Rambo tactics.

I have a bad feeling it is going to get UGLY in West Cove in November.

They will clean out the lake in 3 or 4 days with 126 boats in there.

Gonna look like a Cuba Boat Lift in der but aleast they will be gone after only a couple days.

I would drive to Jennings to take part in that mercy mission. Think they would listen to the facts and not opinion about their livelyhood?

I still say that only the ones who tonged should have gotten a license to dredge.

West Cove needs some cleaning out, but not wiping out.

126 boats is more than enough to do that job.

The sad part is that they don't care about what major affect them reefs have on the ecosystem in the lake, cause it's all about the benjamins baby in their eyes.

When there are no more Oysters left, then who is to blame?

I'm sure he was saying...man how is the fishing on big lake, haven't been in a while due to this oyster protest but ill hit them birds this week! I have 3 quick stops in Sulfur and they are making me good money , I also have 9 snapper boats and 14 shrimp boats!!! But I'm pissed about these oysters

That means never been arrested, DUI, or Back Child support.... You have to give me your SS# and let me run a back ground check

West Cove is going to be smooth like a beach on bottom.

I know a few commercial fishermen who have no record. They live in nice homes, make plenty of money, but don't squander it. They live like you and me.
The ones who holler the most, blow their money instead of saving, or using it to live like the rest of us.

ive tonged and now dredge ,tonging is alot easier and faster if you know what ur doing dredgeing helps spread the reefs you dont get it all you think its easy come get on the boat ill be out there i got a permit easy thats holding a fishing pole like yall do

hope to see yall out there ill dredge every reef your fishing on and 4years be back in lake

Tonging is not easier than dredging. If it was, there would have been a lot more oyster fishermen tonging. Whey did the number of licenses go up after dredging?
You finish a lot faster and easier dredging than tonging.
I fished oysters when I got out of high school. I was on the tongs, boat owner was on the cull board and was sacker. It is not an easy job. Not for 15 sacks.
Tonging small clumps on the East side was not as bad as tonging big reefs in West Cove. It was a muther getting them thangs broke off the reefs.

Do you also understand that "Wholesale" harvesting is the reason WLF has closed the lake to oystering? What would be your industries solution to the problem of over fishing the resource? O.K, I want you to make money because I am a "Capitalist" but you can only harvest so many before the resource crashes.

Im all for guys making a living....126 permits if more than needed

Dredging should be used every 5 years

and if tonging is faster than tell us your boat # so we can watch you tong instead of dredge

tong only would be great ,but you can only take and take for so many years and not put back every where was grants to build new reefs are rebuild reefs you see that happening here ,closing the lake was right the way they did the permits was wrong it should have been local only cameron and calcasieu people thats been oystering all there life didnt get one but people with out boats got one just to try to run a boat thats what the upsets about
