fishin line size

Anyone have thoughts on what is a good all purpose line for specks and reds with poppin corks and jigs on the bottom?

YellowMouth7 10-11-2011 03:21 PM

I use 12 lb triline big game mono with a 3ft 15lb florocarbon leader.....I dont use a swivel just tie a uni to uni knot......for my redfishing in the marsh I use straight 65lb power pro braid

inchspinner 10-11-2011 03:22 PM

12-15 mono..

Montauk17 10-11-2011 03:22 PM

Depends on what you like, braid or mono. Braid I use 30lb sufix or power pro with a 20lb floro leader. I use mono for topwater only,14lb or 17lb stren original with no leader.

Big game is some strong stuff but I hate the memory it has. Try some stren original you will like it.

YellowMouth7 10-11-2011 03:27 PM

each to his own on this for sure......def echo Montauk on straight mono for topwater but I do find I can get better action out of a bait with 12lb mono and a triline knot will allow the bait to "WALK" freely.

I recently made the switc to PowerPro braid and love it (6 lb diameter and 30 lb test I think). Casts a mile and very sensitive. Started using a 12-18"" monofilament leader that I tie to the line and no swivels. Really really like this stuff

gonzalesdave 10-11-2011 03:28 PM

Just recently tried some high impact Stren because it was super cheap and I like it a lot.

I hear ya,I used big game for several years. Bought some stren original and never went back. I bought a 1,500 yard spool of it for cheap cheap.

specktator 10-11-2011 03:34 PM

I throw Sufix 12lb Clear for anything. I never use leaders unless I'm soakin live bait. I can cast a Super Spook prob close to 100 yards, no BS. Need to start tying on leaders though, I'm sure gonna cost me a biggun one day but hasn't yet.

I also used to use Big Game but got away from it.

all star rod 10-11-2011 03:57 PM

Even with topwater? Flourocarbon sinks,I find you have to work your stick harder to get action.

SaltyShaw 10-11-2011 04:30 PM

No i use a mono leader on my topwater rod . . . . My Bad My Bad

Yeh at least 75-80 yards. But that's a big ole super spook. ole Bruce made some adjustments on my brakes one trip. Doubled my casting distance. Amazing! Can't throw a corky that far though. That light line makes a big difference.

I use 10lb Big Game mono with 20lbs Vision shock leader...

eman 10-11-2011 06:03 PM

30 lb PP w/ 20 lb floro leader for top and cork. 30 lb pp no leader on jigs.

Jedi Lure Tricks 10-11-2011 06:59 PM

12# or 14# Sufix Elite mono for top, 30# or 40# ppro for jigs/plastics in dirty water and 20# Seaguar Inviz-X Fluoro for jigs/plastics in stained to clear water

mriguy 10-11-2011 07:08 PM

20 lb power pro with 20lb flouro leader. I want to try some FINS though. 15 lb Big Game for topwata

Kenner18 10-11-2011 07:14 PM

20 lb fins windtamer w/ 20lb flouro leader for topwater and jigs
20 lb Power Pro w/ 20lb flouro leader for live bait and jigs also.

I prefer the Fins over the Power pro.

Capt.B 10-11-2011 08:00 PM

10# Tight Line mono By Offshore Angler and 20# mono leader (same brand)
Use a swivel leader with tails and corky devils.....blood knot everything else.....sling the spool off with 10#.....each spool runs $4.99 for 1500yds.....Huge bang for your buck and you won't be disappointed!!

noodle creek 10-11-2011 09:15 PM

20 lb suffix braid w/ 17 or 20lb vanish leader
12lb seaguar w/ same leader

RigRatNoMeaux 10-12-2011 12:08 AM

I like cajun red line 14lb test. It has a smaller od than most 12lb test and holds no memory.

YellowMouth7 10-12-2011 07:54 AM

floating fly line with 4lb 6in leader

Garfish 10-12-2011 12:36 PM

I use 10 lb Ande Back Country for my spinning reels and 15 lb. Big Game or Stren for my casting reels. I'll tie on a 20lb Fluoro leader if I need to for a bottom bait rig or a cork.

ElectricChicken 10-12-2011 02:55 PM

Bingo!

duckfreak 10-12-2011 04:05 PM

Big GAme

I use 12# Big Game for trout and reds both. Can't beat it. Occassionaly I will use 15# if fishing for Bull Reds, have put some 20+ lbers in the boat with 15# Big Game.
