Trolling motor problems!

Having an issue with my trolling motor. I have the Minn Kota Edge for little over a year now and when I twist the tiller it sometimes won't kick in to gear. Could this be a loose connection in the head? Anyone have any advise on how to repair it myself?

weedeater 10-18-2011 01:09 PM

My old Minn Kota did the same thing and it was due to wire connection in head. I pulled the head off and took small stainless screws and put them in the small hole on blade connectors and no more loose connection.

Montauk17 10-18-2011 01:09 PM

Either a bad connection or the switch on the handle is going out....a new one will set you back about 25 bucks.

Min kota? ? There's your problem!!

Hookem03 10-18-2011 01:28 PM

I figured someone would have something to say about the brand. Good deal, I'll take a look at it and see if I can get it before I make a trip to Henderson this saturday. Thanks for the info.

I had a Minn Kota 70# until it threw me off the boat in 40 dogree water and sent the boat across the bayou.

I have had both, Motor Guides growing up and on first couple of boats, Minn Kota's on last two rigs... Never really had problems with either...

Maybe just lucky, but I always keep everything sprayed down real good with WD or equivalent...

I did allot of research on the one I have now, the internet is a great tool !!!

The real truth is he don't like the color of the tm. That reminds me of a girl and her shoes and he's only increasing by 8lbs of thrust.

call it what you want, I like my stuff to look right and that means I don't want a white saltwater T/M on a bass boat and yes I want 8lb more T/M on it. Maybe you should buy it and stick it next to your Merc so you can get back to the dock:p

My merc runs, it just doesn't run right. :thefinger: So you are saying that the other bass boats with white tm doesn't look right. :D I find that very offensive and want this thread pulled.:grinpimp:

My bass boats white, and I wanted it to look "right" and sticking a black Trollingmotor just was happenin. It's logical.

if I had a costal I would have a salt series or if I had white and wanted the t/m to match it would be another story, but I am lookin at a red boat and I want a black, FOOT CONTROLED, 80lb t/m which he forgot to mention;)

I have a "red" boat that I just took a black tm off and put a white tm on. I did it cause I wanted it to look right. :-)

You best get out a rattle can and start spraying if you want that boat to look right:D

Hookem03 10-19-2011 09:00 PM

So I took it upon myself to do my own maintenance on my t/m and idk what I did but the damn thing wont work now. Where is t/m repair shop around here in Lafayette. I dont think I broke it, just may have did something that I am unaware of. Hopefully this wont cancel my fishin trip saturday.

Superior on banks ave, prop shop, or mikes trolling motors. Call them all and tell them what's wrong, that you want to be able to fish this weekend and ask if they can have it done by then. I brought mine into superior for a small job and he had it ready in a day but I told him I ws trying to go fishing the next day.
