New Technique

This technique has been around in certain areas, but will skyrocket in popularity after this week as several bass pros are using it to dominate a FLW event in Alabama. It is called the Alabama Rig. Has anybody every tried it in saltwater? I would think that it would be unbelievably successful. Can you imagine in the birds right now. Look at the video in the link. To see what it looks like, go straight to the 4:35 mark of the video.

I've seen setups like this but bigger, used offshore trolling behind the boat; but might be a nightmare to cast.

MattW 10-23-2011 07:06 PM

The titanium arms keep them from tangling, but I've never seen one with hooks in every bait and used for anything other than trolling. It has to be impossible to cast in the wind. I bet it weighs 3 ounces rigged. Would make for great backlash videos and would catch seagulls by the dozen.

jpeff31787 10-23-2011 07:29 PM

I'm sure it catches fish. But I don't think I'd ever fish with one on a serious fishing trip

barbarian 10-23-2011 08:20 PM

Almost all of the top 10 this week on the FLW pro bass tour used the set up. I don't know what bait was used, but the winner, Paul Elias used it all 4 days and had a limit of 5 each day and a total weight of 102.8lbs with 20 fish. It is definitely interesting and was just curious if anybody has ever tried it. If you stretch your imagination, it really is just a speck rig on steroids.

huntin fool 10-23-2011 08:28 PM

Don't think I could see myself fishing that in my tournaments... I've thrown a double style rig during the blown out schools during summer. Just depends on your style of fishing.

weedeater 10-23-2011 08:53 PM

looked it up and the main part is $25, that's before you add baits on it..... could not imagine losing that with 5 baits that run over $5 each hooked on

LPfishnTIM 10-23-2011 09:27 PM

they can keep that! I don't think that is legal in a BASS tournament.

It is.. just cant use more than 1 rod at one time. no different than throwing a lure with 3 treble hooks.

Capt.B 10-24-2011 06:07 AM

You would have to have a special rod and set up just for that contraption....storage would be tough too...looks like the demonstrator had no problems casting in calm conditions....interesting though.....

skeeter77346 10-24-2011 06:42 AM

Pretty crazy setup. How many reds would it take before the wires were trashed?

bull1134 10-24-2011 07:25 AM

1 decent red

BassAssasin 10-24-2011 10:08 AM

thats pretty cool, great looking setup for schoolers

Duck Butter 10-24-2011 10:14 AM

There is a sucker born everyday, every single day

We had those growing up, My dad caught an 8lb striper in ARK on the little fish one, needless to say it broke after that one fish

SaltERedneck 10-25-2011 03:20 PM

Just read on Bassmaster about this new technique. guy said he had to use a 7'11" flippin rod... total weight of 2 ounces. WOW. he won the tourney though. someone would have to make me a believer to chunk all that metal.

Boo 10-31-2011 07:55 AM

Seen the video in the link but didn't see any fish on. Maybe I missed it?

Clampy 10-31-2011 05:41 PM

ive caught bass on heli lures only when a normal buzz bait would have also caught them. can you imagine throwing that contraption in a school of bulls in mid lake.... good bye rod

My uncle caught a 7lb bass his first throw in a helicopter lure and that was it lol

Clampy 11-02-2011 08:16 PM

if you use it what its for it works. like a weedless buzzbait in grass and stuff it will do fine but its no end all like they made it out to be. ah old roland martin you tricked a many of us young anglers. i begged my parents for that crap when i was like 10.
