Salty Cajun Christmas Family Fund
We plan to adopt two families this year, one from the east side of the state and one from the west side. Southern 151 (Corey) will handle all of the donations so that the cash is kept separate from our website through his PayPal account. He will post his information here shortly. Our plan is to raise as much as possible and split the money between the west side and east side family.
I think this is a great cause and I look forward to hopefully helping make a difference for two families that might not otherwise have a great holiday. More details to follow. |
Sounds like a plan!

Ok guys, here’s what we are thinking. I have a family in dire need over here so, with Casey in agreement, the eastside family is taken care of. Their dad was in a nasty accident that should have severed his foot and hasn’t been able to work in months. At this point, they are literally hunting and fishing for their meals, kids included. I am asking that the folks on the west side find someone who could use our help. Surely someone here knows a family in true need.
Who from the west side would like to head up this part of the project? It’s gonna require a lot of effort and some valuable time but, what better to do than help someone else out?! Several things were mentioned to me last night that I had never considered about doing this. Clearly, having some toys for the kids in the family is a no brainer but, to Mom and Dad, they need help as well. A gift card to a Payless Shoe Store was one thing mentioned. We all know kids need shoes and this helps make sure money isn’t spent in an irresponsible way. Also, a local grocery store card that is for dairy and meat only. Or, get with their utility company and pay a light bill. All things that are a TREMENDOUS help to parents that you wouldn’t normally relate to a Christmas family. Eman and I talked last night and, he and “Mrs. Clause” will be handling the delivery aspects of the east family due to proximity to my personal family and, I really want to keep this anonymous. Depending on the funds raised, we will be delivering some toys for the kids, a good, hot Christmas meal and perhaps some relief for Mom and Dad. I will not only be relying on what we as Salty Cajuns raise but, will also be hitting up some local businesses about helping as well. I think this could be a HUGE success and a great tradition for this band of brothers here at the SC! Depending on the funds raised, we may be able to help more families than two. This all depends on you guys! Again, I need a west side member to help with this as well. Discuss it amongst yourselves and pick a chairperson for this as well as a family. Everyone here is free to call me anytime regarding this at my shop or, on my cell. Those numbers are 225-647-2772(shop) and, 580-716-4995(cell) Let’s make this thing great fellas!!!! |

Corey , IMHO ,lets just concentrate on the 2 familys this year. the more we collect the more we can do for them. I have an idea but need to run it by the boss when she gets home.
|
My Paypal account is c_fisher79@yahoo.com. If you would be so kind, please include your screen name here so I can keep up and make a final list of donors. I will not include amounts donated but, would like to be able to show off how many great folks we have here!
Also, if you do not have a paypal account, PM me and I'll give you my home address so we can do paper checks and money orders as well! |
BTW, I do still need a representative from the west side to help me out with this. It's gonna require some leg work but, it will be very rewarding IMO!
We also will need a family over there to nominate. If you know of one, let me know. PM it to me if that is better. If there is more than one, how will we handle it?...Drawing? First mentioned? Need input from y'all. |

Can we make this a sticky? I know we have a ways to go before Christmas but, I'd really rather not try to cram everything in in the last few days. C'mon guys, let's do this!
|
Guys I just wanted to bump this up. As of last night we had not received a donation yet. Also we need to wrap this up around the 15th so we have ample time to buy gifts and make arragements. Thanks for all your support everyone this really a great cause.

Here's a quick update...
JDM4X43237 is currently utilizing some of his resources to help locate a family on the west side of things. Also, I have had a few folks ask how to make contributions without Paypal so, PM me and I'll get you my home address. We still need a LOT of help guys! From shopping for families, locating them, to delivering their Christmas, WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!! As Chicken has mentioned before, we will be shutting this down on the 15th of December so that we have time to get everything put together. I understand times are tight but, regardless of contribution size, it will be greatly appreciated! Also, if anyone has any questions about this...any sort of question at all, feel free to call me at the shop 225-647-2772 or on my cell 580-716-4995. I look forward to hearing from you with questions or concerns. Thanks, Corey Fisher |
Donation
Well guys I went out and about today hit up a few local businesses and managed to score us two 25 lb bags of rice and a cash donation to be picked up in the next few weeks. Got a few toys donated. Also picked up a some cash donations from a few individuals. Like Corey said any contribution you can make or if you could help us in putting this together it will go a long way for the families. Anyone in the Crowley area that would like to make a donation can do so at Gail's Gifts on HWY 90 / 2ND ST. We will have a drop box set up soon.

Corey, I'll paypal you some money this weekend or Monday.

Well here is another update. We didn't have room for a drop box in front of the store. The wife is making a sign to put on the door and she can hold items in her office, floor space is cramped in the shop. Come on guys we need to do this BIG!!!
|
Bump.
|
As of today our total funds raised is $100. Any help that anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.
|
Casey you can add another $250 to that amount, I will be going collect it when I get in next hitch along with the 50 lbs of rice that were donated. I'm waiting to hear back from a few other guys who were trying to rustle up a few donations. Come on guys we are going to need some help to make this happen, we have 8 children between the two families who without a little help will have little or no Christmas this year.
|
I just got off the phone with a person who would like to remain anonymous and they have promised a donation of $1000.00 to be paid in early December!!!! I'm very proud of this person and honored to be a friend to them!
That being said, we have 8 kids and 4 adults to tend to this year. WE STILL NEED HELP! I understand if you can't help in the finance dept. I'm not asking to let your own do without so that others can have. We still need help with shopping and delivery. C'mon guys, where's the SC spirit I have become so fond of?! |
Just scored a $100.00 donation of groceries to help furnish the families with. Hustling yo!! I'm looking for a Wii or similar game console for the west side family. If someone has one laying around in good shape that you could donate or sell to us, the "West Side" kids have been wanting one.
Way to go Corey on the big donation. This will go a long way!!! |
