Thistlewaite......
I'm goin ride up this afternoon. I'm goin look for a boat launch on the southern border of the WMA. Anyone know where there may be one? Anyone wanna ride up there and make some hunts soon?
Tim you must enter and leave Thistlewaite threw the main gate only.
There is one on bayou Courtableau behind the projects.
In Washington.
Crap.....that sucks! Trying to get away from other hunters.......that's a stupid rule
You got to walk the walk. Unless you have a handicap tag then you can ride a four wheeler on designated trails.
To bad my boots are at my hunting camp or I would be willing to go up there with you. Don't forget there is Indian Bayou right down the road. It has the same regs as Thistlewaite but it doesn't get hunted as hard.
Tim hunting Thistlewaite is very difficult as I grew up in Opelousas and I have hunted it a ton and I have never managed to kill a deer out of it. This is the only reserve I have ever hunted that I can't kill out of. I plan on changing that later this year or so I hope.
Indian bayou would be my choice
Well, I'm not gonna worry about it today then.....gonna Google earth Indian bayou......but if I can't get away from the others, not sure I wanna mess with it. Its just to dangerous out there
Sherburne is just to difficult to hunt since Gustav.......
It is the either sex gun weekend at Thistlethwaite this weekend. Be carefull if you end up going there and walking around in the woods. Not a good weekend to go scouting with the potential of flying lead.

Ryan, where is it?

Where is what?
Indian bayou
In north henderson. When you take the butte la rose exit off 1-10 pretty much everything to the north west is indian bayou. There is some private property in the area though, get a map.
I remember years ago when i was a kid they used to do a lottery hunt in thistlewaite. If you were lucky and got your named pulled in the first round it wasnt bad at all.
Is is not a wma it is ran by the corps. Here ya go....http://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/recrea...tchafalaya.asp
Tim maps are available at the entrances along with permits
Tim..... if you are considering going to Indian Bayou by boat, look for Lake Fordoche on the map. It is located north of the north Henderson flat's area. From this lake you can hunt off the lake or head up to the north east part of the lake and head up the bayou going farther north. Lots of good place up that way.
Or.... about mid lake, over on the west side of Lake Fordoche there is a bayou that goes to the west. Probably less hunting over this way. Some years, late in the season the water can get fairly high at Indian Bayou. |
Thanks guys.....ill be scouting it out in a few weekends......boat is the way to go. Gotta get away from the pressure! Got 4 more tags, and plenty of freezer space!!! Not sure I can afford the processor yet.........
There is a launch on the westside on the dixie pipeline that puts you right in the heart of the property. Been a couple years since I went back there, not sure if you can launch right now with the low water. Go slow in all of these areas,LOTS of stumps.
