If them dang greys would've worked better, we wouldn't have had to shoot any.

He was the grey duck slaya yesterday.

Gottogo49 12-05-2011 10:46 AM

I can challenge Shawn for the Spoonbill Slayer title. My buddy lets me hunt a little muddy pond near his camp that is full of spoonies and not much else. If it flies like a duck, it dies like a duck. It's better than not hunting. I breast them and leg them and then trim all the fat off. Marinate them in milk and never have a problem with them being too fishy.

I've personally never had one taste fishy.

Ray 12-05-2011 01:31 PM

Spoony's eat the same thing as Gray Ducks, Widgeons... ect.

I have killed more GW Teal that were fishy, than I have any other ducks.

DUCKGOGETTER 12-06-2011 08:39 AM

I cleaned a bluewing one time and that sucker had little minnows all in his throat not sure how that sucker didn't choke. Nothing wrong with them spoonies.

all them ducks eat anything. I watched a primos hunting video one time and they were hunting in montana and the mallards were everywhere. They were shooting them in a cattle pen due to the fact that all the food was froze so the ducks were eating the corn out the cow poo.

My wife don't eat ducks, but she loves the gravy from pot roasted ducks.
She practically licked the black pot clean last night. When I cleaned it, it
looked like it was cleaned already. No onions or gravy juice left in it.

Micah 12-06-2011 09:18 PM

Cousin made a duck and deer sausage gumbo tonight. He boiled the duck in crab boil for a while then pulled the meat from the bones and put it in the gumbo. Talk about good and spicy, had to wipe the sweat off my face.

It's good if you precook it and take the "slime" out.
