Mann's Alabama Rig

Has anyone tried Mann's Alabama Rig for Specs?

Montauk17 12-06-2011 05:09 PM

Im sure it would work. The problem I see is you have to use a heavy action rod and heavy braid to fish it. With the paper mouths trout have you will loose alot of fish. Looks like your throwing a damn crab trap with swimbaits attached. :D

Even better. Marshworks has started making them for $10 less.
1/2 oz. Cinco del Bayou $15

huntin fool 12-06-2011 06:03 PM

And yes, they catch specks.

Watching a FLW bass tournament right now and everyone that is fishing the final day is throwing the Alabama Rig and smoking the fish. Catching 2 at a time on some cast.

Yeah just like a half ounce jig (with five other quarter oz jigs tied to that and five softbodied Swim baits around a quarter oz each on those, so yeah just like a half ounce jig.) :)

How do you fish something like this?

Jedi Lure Tricks 12-07-2011 03:41 PM

How much does your rig weigh unrigged?

So let me get this straight. Now when you get hung up instead of losing 1 bait you lose 5? I'm not knocking this rig just trying to figure out the purpose of throwing something like this.

its an open water rig. not meant for structure. its a steady retrieve soo you shouldnt have too many problems in salt water with hangups. IMO. unless there is some unforseen object submerged. not saying it isnt possible to hang up but the way its fished is meant to keep it away from all that.

I'm not throwing them with 1/4 oz jigs. Swimbaits with straight shanks Texas rigged. And 3 in swimbaits at that. 7'6 mh rod 50 lb braid. Not bad at all.

All preference. But I'll continue slingin on them ;)

1fastmerc 12-07-2011 04:07 PM

Tie you some of dem $20+ lucky craft crankbaits on. Then loose it.

$15 for the same thing at marshworks. Not $25.

DUCKGOGETTER 12-07-2011 04:10 PM

I have a freind of mine that when i you go fishing with him he almost hooks someone every time. If i ever see one of these tied to one of his rods i'm not steping foot in the boat.

Micah 12-07-2011 04:11 PM
