Big Lake 9-2-09
 

Well I took a friend of mine fishing today. We launched @ 5:30 AM. We hit the lake but the wind was blowing way too hard. Headed to the ship channel. Caught some nice specks, tried the jetties, nothing, tried the beach, nothing, tried johnson bayou, nothing, headed to the rigs, nothing, back to the jetties, nothing, back to the channel, boom it was on! Caught several nice specks & a ton of bull reds. The bite died around 4 so we went back on the lake & picked up a few more trout. Total for the day was 18 specks, 3 sand trout & we kept 2 reds. We threw back all the bull reds. Here are pics of a few of them. Most of the fish were caught on live bait.

thats a great spot right there, caught many of reds and crabs on that point

I think he is upset about where I was fishing. Was that supposed to be a secret spot or something. It's a point. every guy on the lake has fished that point at one time or another. I had no clue that was your super secret spot. I actually pulled up there because I saw another boat there.

So let me see if I understand all of this.

Someone showed someone a hot little spot on the downlow. Then that person shows another person this spot he is suppossed to keep under his lid. Then the other person returns to that spot with yet another person (who we know will bring another person etc etc) and proceeds to potlick a boat that stumbled onto that spot or was told by the person trhat told this person and now I am sooo confused.

Don't feel bad, I am in the middle of this mess & I have no idea what it going on!

I should have just stayed in Moss Lake again today!

Well.....one thing is for sure, that spot only has a ton of boats passing it up everyday...especially Saturdays...and someone is always on it if not a few boats. I personally have never fished this spot, but know for dang sure there's nothing secret about it. Yah want a secret spot? Submerge a bunch of debris along a ledge on the channel, gps the coordinates, let it sit a year or so and then fish it on week nights.

i aint even from there but dude your right..somewhere in the Breton Sound who only 4 known people have the GPS coordinates to (i was luck to be one of em cause i helped)..there is a pile of steel..rocks.cement.debris..anything you can think of about 200 feet long that was put there about 3 years ago...and we get some crazy looks from people passing us up wanting to know wat the hell were fishing in open water for..lol..there are people over here who would pay good money to get these coordinates..

can i get those coordinates from ya buddy? lol i wont tell

OK the boat in the background of the picture is me. Jsmoke and I met up at the landing and agreed we would stay in touch on the water and if one got on some fish we would let the other know. Hell that is what fishing buddies are suppossed to do. He was on his way in from the Jetties and passed by and I told him we had just got there and were on a few fish and told him to go down a bit and anchor. It is only potlicking when you are not invited. We ended the day with 14 trout 3 reds and 3 flounder. Must have caught 30 rat reds. Jsmoke thanks for sharing.

Lasy time I checked, Big Lake is public water. So if there are good spots out there, which I know there are, guess what, THEY ARE NOT YOURS. If people know about them and fish them woopidy doo. Go somewhere else. I ain't tryin to start no trouble with anyone, but too many guys that fish that lake think they own it. I was wanting to get into the trout fishing gig, but with all the bickering about someone in my spot or what not just turns me off to the whole situation. It's sad really.

Guys just wanted to comment on this...LAS is not responsible for its members actions as the SC is not either...its up to its "members" to take it upon themselves to act in a respectful manner towards each other (excluding the Gill Net!!) Its sounds like this is going in the right direction...remember were are here because of a similiar love for the outdoors and having some fun on the the confuser!!!
