How much do you spend $$$

How much money do you guys spend on average per month on fishing / hunting? How many trips do you get out of this amount of money? The Warden asked me this the other day and the only logical answer I had for her was less than when I ran the bars and chased strange stuff...... She got the hint but didn't really like my answer.

Just curious as to what you guys drop on this stuff. If I just buy fuel, maybe 50 - 75 or so bucks a month, but if I go to Academy or Ebay it is not good.

SaltERedneck 01-18-2012 10:41 AM

Fuel... 60-100$
Lures... 20-40$
Snacks/drinks... 10-20$

The chance to get the hell outta the house..... PRICELESS!

Duck Butter 01-18-2012 10:43 AM

I have figured it costs me $100 to go and fish Big Lake from Lafayette. Gas,beer, ice, food, tackle.

I don't usually think about that though as my wife and I have separate checking accounts. She would siht if she knew what I spent on outdoor entertainment, just like I would siht if I knew what she spent at.....:)

Depends on what time of the year.........
I have my own account I use for just fishing ,boat, baits etc...

I dont spend a lot of money on baits or hooks I get all in Bulk and most of that is real cheap

Gas during the summer with longer runs and more moving I spend up to $500 a month on gas if not more

Winter I still fish the same amount but spend less on gas becuase I dont go very far..
Last hitch off I fished 5 days on 16 gallons of fuel

Last year in 12months I adv about $435 a month on Fuel alone

SaltERedneck 01-18-2012 10:43 AM

I would run up a 40-60$ tab in the bar after buying a 12pk/ 10$..... PER NIGHT. sooo count that for friday and sat and multiply by 4.

"W" 01-18-2012 10:46 AM

I get all my water at Sams most of the time and load my Ice chest up with 50 or more waters...... I put 50 in my icechest in Nov and still have about 15 left....

Summer time we will drink 25-30 a day

Reefman 01-18-2012 11:01 AM

None of you are even scratchin the surface...how about that boat note and the big arse truck to pull it? Those of us who lease properties for hunting....new dekes every year...shotgun shells, new guns, Mud boats, ATVs Oh, and camps???? Thank God i have a separate account that the boss can't see. I would be embarrassed (maybe divorced!) to disclose how much I really spend on hunting/fishing in a year. Most in here would be the same!

"W" 01-18-2012 11:04 AM

Boat note is just a investment...that's what I tell myself..and camp note is a place to gather family.... That's how I look at it....lol

inchspinner 01-18-2012 11:04 AM

10-14 trips a month
fuel 160-200
baits 30-40 maybe..buy alot at once
drinks beer, water when its on sale for 2.50 for 30 bottles around 30-40

210-280 a month...depends where im launching and running....

truck note too but no boat note.....and 40 in oil 2stroke...

Truly a great rationalization W! I'm goin' to use this if ever my wife finds out what the heck I'm up to.

jdm4x43732 01-18-2012 11:14 AM

Truck and boat are both paid for. If you'd see em you'd know why. I don't have nice equipment... My parents are buying "us" a new/used bay boat tomorrow so my fuel consumption should go up. I don't spend much on drinks just grab a handful from fridge on the way out, and I don't run far in my little boat.

evidrine 01-18-2012 11:19 AM

Just a trip to the lease is about 70bucks in fuel, not to mention the annual cost. Anything extra I would buy for hunting is pretty much not a necessity (other than ammo), since I have most of what I need already. Fishing is another story. Dont have a boat, so mostly do a lot of surf trips. Try to make a bid deal out of it with friends, so lots of food and drinks. Cost usually gets split up though.

Monthly hunting trips @ 150 bucks
Monthly fishing @ 50 if enough people go.

fishinpox 01-18-2012 01:00 PM

ive been super busy with work lately but when i fish the spring and summer at least 5 times a month
gas for truck/ trip 120.00
gas for boat / trip 30-250.00
ice 20.00/ trip
tackle 100.00/month
food waters 100.00/month
hotels/ camp rentals 300.00/ month
when i had a boat note add 350.00/month

so between 1600.00- 2000.00 / month but lately only 3-400.00

but come march it will be back around 1600-2000.00
most of my trips are taking customers that i eaither do work for or am trying to get thier business :p so i can write it all off

southern151 01-18-2012 01:14 PM

Man, if my wife knew what I spent on hunting and fishing, she'd likely leave me! I told a friend the other day that, if anything were to ever happen to me, don't let my wife sell off my stuff for what I told her I paid for it!

wtretrievers 01-18-2012 01:30 PM

Being that I have 3 boys & my wife goes to the hunting camp "every" weekend from Oct-Jan which is a little over 2 hour drive & fishing camp from Feb-Sept & it's a little over an hour. If I sat down & figured it out I'd probably throw up!

Dink 01-18-2012 01:37 PM

Seems like it's $200-$300 everytime I hook up the boat......hunting is more expensive it seems. Especially if you need to travel to get your game.

flounder_smacker 01-18-2012 02:01 PM

0. I put it all on my Louisiana purchase card. Thanks Obama !!!

jpeff31787 01-18-2012 02:49 PM

if I'm freshwater fishing, it usually cost me in fuel only about $50 a trip, and I go at least 5 times a month. $125

I probably go through at least $15 worth of tackle so thats another $75

and for saltwater i would have to at least double the fuel and baits about the same maybe less.

So $200 a month for 5 trips if I'm bass fishing, and probably $400-$500 a month if I'm in saltwater.

simplepeddler 01-18-2012 04:23 PM

scared to even think about it

BigChaf 01-18-2012 04:32 PM

I think I have goose meat down to $300.00 dollars a pound!!!!!

Reefman 01-18-2012 04:43 PM

I really think my money has been better spent on the great outdoors lately than running bars and nightclubs in my younger catch and release years.....uh, uh......

might have to pm Montauk on this....

Mediumheavyaction6'6 01-18-2012 06:18 PM

I spent $300 in gas for my truck for five days of fishing week before last. I can't add this stuff up or I may stop fishing.

meaux fishing 01-18-2012 06:41 PM

more than I want to think about but still not enough

fishaholic82 01-18-2012 06:59 PM

I spend around $150 a tip in the summer and $50 in the winter.
I work 28/14 and usually make anywhere from 2-6 trips on my 2 weeks off.
Boat note and insurance is $450 a month.
But I'd pay 10x's that just to see my lil girl dancing around the boat when see catches a fish.

Boom

ckinchen 01-18-2012 08:11 PM

Last year two new boats at around 90K total, probably 15 or so new reels and rods at around 3k. In the summer time I make around 15 trips a month all the way to November then I have been duck hunting this year at $600 a pop with tip and probably around 15 trips. Three new shotguns for duck hunting plus 350 decoys for what I plan to lease next year total of around 6K.

Last year I bought a new camp and an F250, I don't even want to think about the cost of both.

This year I have ordered a mud boat and I plan to lease some property for duck hunting.

If you back out the camp, boats and truck and just focus on the bait, gas, (no ice, I have a machine at my camp), lease, shotgun shells, decoys, I bet it is 40K to 60K, way to much.... and still not enough....

Plus I bought the Salty Cajun for _______X.

I need another job to pay for all of this stuff.

ckinchen 01-18-2012 08:14 PM

I wish I would have never duck hunted... It is like a sickness and very expensive.
