Express boats
thinking of buying used express bay boat . Any pros & cons

Dont buy the hd hull
Get the hyperlift hull |

Don't buy at all....get a fiberglass boat

I agree. I had a 18' HD, it was rough. |
Go with a custom built hull. Will last twice as long. Xpress and any factory made aluminum boats are built with thin metal(1/8" or less)!
|
I had a hd20 xpress I renamed it hdwetarse/ sore back! If u plan on fishing open water prepare to suffer!
|
Yea xpress is pretty much junk....unless your just staying in a river with no wind....they scare fish in open water
|
the wind will whip them around! You'll have to stay on the trolling motor!
|
The welds will split over time.

I have x 22 with the hyper lift hull and it does well in a chop..it is .125" thick alum...sure it is not a hiney (but nothing is) but for the amount I fish a year (20 -30) times it is all I need plus I saved about 10k vs a glass boat. now if money did not matter or all you did was fish a lot I would get a glass boat.

If you got the money I would check out Sportsman Fab in Morgan City. Mine is a 21x6 bay boat and I've been rough on it. It handles rough water well and last summer I had it 30 miles offshore. It floats in 11" of water and has no problem getting on step in 16" of water. It isn't as quiet and doesn't ride quite as well as a fiberglass boat but it will outlast any fiberglass hull, even a Haynie. Not hating on Haynies in fact if I were to buy a glass boat it'd be a Haynie its just hard for me to get away from the durability of an aluminum boat.
|
to me, if the price was pretty much the same for a glass vs alum boat...glass all the way....as I mentioned for the amount I fish a year I am very happy with my x22b xpress...
|
I am the proud owner of an junky X19 Xpress bass boat, I have fished in fiberglass boats, aluminium boats and even wood boats covered in glass and they all fish about the same..... no boat catches more fish then the other, it all comes down to how good of a fisherman you are.

Believe that in saltwater...... If you fish aluminum in rivers and lakes with no chop....great...I use my 15ft all the time in marsh... When your in open water with chop aluminum boat (DON'T MATTER WHAT KIND) will scare fish and kill a bite.... I have seen it 10000000000000000000000000000000000 xs |

Custom aluminum hulls like a Gravois, Gaudet's , Lifetyme, and others are not your average aluminum stamped out boat. In fact more often than not, people do not see mine as alloy.......... But hey what do I know, I have a walk through windshield for goodness sake. |
If you want an Xpress go to H&M in crowley. His prices are the lowest in the state.
|
They are low, but be warned. They are not real customer friendly.
I bought 2 boats from him. |

Yeah, ive herd a few bad things about the owner also, but if you just want to save a few bucks and dont care, go see Tommy at H&M. |
He has helped me out but he is the only one that can help you over there. Heard people dog them before but all I can say is they move a huge volume of boats at H&M.

there is an Xpress dealer in Beaumont, TX that seems legit. I know a guy at work that bought from H&M at the boat show last yr but after I took him to Beaumont he wished he would have dealt with them insted.

Buy a Haynie |
Yea, an aluminum boat with a true bart boat hull with not scare off fish..... I have not seen any fish swim away when I fish with my bro in law.
We catch bass, trout , reds n the shallows & have run out into Breton sound. No issues with not catching fish in the wind:) |
Bay boat hull.... Damn auto text.
|
Original poster asked if Express boats were good or bad... Most people answered wet, rough, welds crack, good, bad, ugly, ect... These are things I would want to know if in the market...
Somehow, you took this as an opportunity to slam, drag, bash and humiliate any and all aluminum boat owners on the site in normal "W" fashion... No matter what the topic; rods, nets, reels, bildge pumps, light bulbs or hemorrhoid cream, you go on the same offensive and attempt to bash everyone else's stuff... |
This is not a compare fiberglass to aluminum thread, stay on topic or infractions will be handed out. W unless you have owned or ridden in an xpress there is no need to post on this thread.
Now back to the topic. I owned an hd 20 a few years ago, great boat in rivers and the marsh, it killed me with any chop. Pros are it will last a lifetime, run shallow and us cost effective. Cons to me are that it is loud with any chop and not a great boat in open water with 10 knots or more facing you. Good luck with your decision. |

Loud Wet Beats the hell out of you in chop Real noisy when fishing out of it It spliton him a few times He sold it and bought a Champion |

So in the end it is probably what is most important you, they are a good product for an aluminum boat, but jst like any other boat aluminum or glass, they will all have their own benefits and their own downfalls... |
