Lacassine pool water level

I just got back from checking the water level, and it looks great. It looks to be at or close to the level they usually hold it at with normal weather conditions. After I looked at the pool I drove to the bell city ditch and it's a raging mess rite now so pray for the rain to keep coming.

When you go through the gate and come to the tee where the old launch is to your right and the d unit and new launch are to your left straight in front is the section that got burned last year looks to have 4 to 6 inches on it. To my understanding it hasnt held water or looked like that in years should be interesting this year

Good deal, thanks for the report !

That spot at the tee with the dock and parking in front of it had water about 4 years ago, even caught fish there on my way out.

Well there is a trail that runs though it several hundred yards in but now there's no grass line on the edge of the canal if you were on plane or had a mud motor you could run due west across that hole section of marsh now I doubt it will hold enough water to support many fish I'm sure some will get in it but you will see what I'm talkin about when you go out there

Appreciate the info bud.

j.e.hagen 02-18-2012 10:06 PM

has anyone heard any information about them shocking i would find it hard to believe even if there was a fish kill that it deplinished the population much because it was already over populated according to the biologist and i also find it hard to believe that alligators would take that big of a tole on the population i know there is a bunch of gators but there was still water in the canals and those fish i feel would have survived now the fish stuck in the flats that did hold a little water but were sectioned off i can see them gettin over run by gators and hawks etc.

jlincecum 02-18-2012 10:14 PM

this is great news. guess I'll be hitting Laccasine a few times this trip home instead of bass fishing in big lake

Top Dawg 02-18-2012 10:15 PM

U would be suprised as to what gators could do to fish in a bottle neck.

BigChaf 02-19-2012 11:27 AM

News like that makes my day, thanks for the info.

papap 02-19-2012 06:29 PM

In years past, what circumstances led to lowering the pool level ?

Thanks

noodle creek 02-19-2012 08:41 PM

i'm sure there are still fish in there but after looking at it back in november its hard to be optimistic

papap 02-19-2012 09:01 PM

they lower the water for the ducks lol

j.e.hagen 02-19-2012 10:32 PM

They shocked some time in the last week and had a decent turn up of fish

huntin fool 02-19-2012 10:48 PM

The boards are lowered, this is why the pool is filling so fast. The water is coming in from the ditch at a fast pace. This was going on before the rain this past weekend, so I can only imagine how much is going in now. The boards have been lowered for about 3 weeks now.

I accepted that about 2 years ago. I couldn't catch a bass out a 5 gallon bucket

huntin fool 02-20-2012 11:04 AM

Speaking of Frogs.. it's almost getting time to go behind the house.. sink a couple of boats.. catch some frogs...

papap 02-20-2012 01:53 PM

Just hope they put the board back in before the water goes the other way.

j.e.hagen 02-21-2012 09:38 AM

Yeah I hope so to but obviously they were concerned with the water level so you would think they would be paying attention and once the bayou and the ditch start to go down the boards on the spill ways would go up.

No I was working at academy. He called me to tell me about it and I got fired that day for answering my phone. All over the few drops of water that flew in the air he called a rooster tail

I remember you telling me that actually. Leave it to Hagen

j.e.hagen 02-21-2012 12:05 PM

All I know is I'm ready to get in the pool and probably not catch anything but watch the other ******heads teach me how not to put a boat in the water or run in shallow water that's one of my favorite things

huntin fool 02-21-2012 03:27 PM

I wonder how the D unit will be.. Hagen, did the biologist say anything about it?

Your judgement is better than mine..Only time I ever fished D unit is with you, throwing from the bank as we were about to leave.. We caught several solid fish that day too if I recall.

I fished the Ditch today and its a foot higher in the canal than the pool. The water was pouring in there.

Check out my post in freshwater reports. We caught 15 cats before we ran out of night crawlers. Went for sacs and they werent biting so we switched to catfishing. Now if we would of been going for cats and prepaired we would of filled the boat.
