Headed to Disney in Fall -- Help!

Ok, all you Disney Fanatics. I am headed to WDW with my wife, 2 daughters (5&2) and my maw and paw in law in late October. We are flying from Houston.

Looking for suggestions on resorts on WDW property. Would like good and bad reviews of places you have personally stayed.

Other helpful info would be appreciated, too,

TIA,

Latt

Stayed there already. The place is amazing! They had some nice eye candy working there when I went. Better than Target on a Saturday afternoon!!!!!!! Stay away from the "It's a Small World" ride. I've never came so close to drowning myself!

I told my wife the only way i would ever go there is for Mardi Gras when the crowds are light. I don't like being around a big group of people i don't know.

My bro in law took his family the day after Christmas till after new years. Saw pics and was speechless, I could walk across the heads of all the people like I was walking down the road.

I have a buddy that has gone 29 times in 30 years, his advice is to go in august after school starts, best deals and least amount of people

My family has been many times and I suggest staying in one of the all star resorts to save money. After a day in the parks your beat and just pass out soon as you get and to get up and do it again. Make sure you buy park hopper tickets so you can hit one in the am then another after a nap! Have fun

jchief 03-08-2012 09:05 AM

Been several times.

We went for Mardi Gras a few years back and the parks were empty except for Louisiana folks. GREAT time. Stayed at a Disney affiliated motel.

Been 2 times and brought camper. Love Fort Wilderness. They have cabins there. You can take a boat to the Magic Kingdom from there.

Went last year Dec 15 - 21, I think. Stayed at the All Star Movies. They have family suites. There were 4 adults and a 5 year old.

went 2 years ago and stayed at the wilderness campground in one of the cabins. Very nice and no crowd like the resorts. Boat ride straight to Magic kingdom. Rented a golf cart and drove around at night looking at deer.

PUREBAY2200 03-08-2012 09:28 AM

We went jan 15-20.... No crowds ... Longest we waited for a ride was 20 min.
It was nice; weather was great.
Can't help ya on the resort we stayed at my aunts condo in Kissimmee.

My little boy has ADHD, before last summer his Dr. asked if we were going to Disney World because if so she would write a script to get a pass to cut the lines.

We stayed there as well. IMO, it's a little dated, but the staff, in typical Disney fashion, was outstanding. Staying on site is the only way to go as they treat you like royalty. During the summer the park stays open until 2:00am for resort guests and the late hours were great as the park is wide open. I think I rode Pirates of the Carribean 10 times in a row with my 3 year old...

eman 03-08-2012 11:31 AM

Dont know if they still do it ,but if so get the park hopper pass. It allows you to go from park to park and also it allowed us to get in the parks a half hour earlier than the general public. we stayed at the orleans and enjoyed not needing a vehicle.

Lake Chuck Duck 03-08-2012 01:09 PM

My bro in law said something about fast passes. If you get there early you can get a "fast pass". He said they didnt have to wait in any lines.

Ya get a fastpass but you cannot get another fast pass till ya use the one ya got or it expires

eman 03-08-2012 01:30 PM

When we went we booked 7 days on site and flights thru travel agent. flew from br to orlando. disney shuttle picked us up at airport and took us to the orleans. Then shuttle took us back to airport after our 7 days..
The way our deal was set up you could go anywhere on disney property at any time.
Only thing they didn't have back then was the meal deals . now you can buy a package for your meals on property.

CDW 03-08-2012 01:36 PM

Went last summer. Stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter resort. It was real nice, awesome pool. I would stay at a Disney resort, the shuttle bus system is convenient going back and forth. It was nice when the kids got tired midday, you can just hop on bus back to hotel for a break. Didnt have to fight the parking.

Ive used the points before from a site like the ones above.Saves a ton of money, basically you are renting the rooms from someone that has a timeshare at the resort, and they are not using it. So instead of losing their week, they will rent you the resort for a fraction of the cost. Stayed in the beach club resort for 6 nights in September for 1086 dollars. Talked to a lady that had been working for disney for years. She said the best time to go to avoid crowds was february.

fishaholic82 03-09-2012 10:41 AM

I would definitely get the meal plan and you can make reservation 3 months in advance. Look on the website at all the different restuarants and book early cause the better places like Ohana's and Coral Reef(has a huge aquarium) and many others fill up quick. Also if your girls are into the princesses we had a meal in Cinderellas castle and my daughter was able to dress up in one of her princess outfits and majority of the princesses go from table to table sitting down and visiting for a few minutes and your able to take pictures with them. My daughter taked about that for weeks.

ScubaLatt 03-11-2012 09:32 PM

Thanks, guys. We booked rooms at Coronado resort, got hopper passes and meal plan. Had 2 free flights from houson for me and wife, 1 daughter's tickets cost me $65.00 and had to buy one for my 2nd girl at full price for $377. Not bad -- 4 roundtrip tickets for $442. And, the best part is that my in-laws are paying for the resort and disney tickets. All I have to pay for is the meal plan. going 10/23-10/30.

Dink 03-12-2012 08:37 AM

We stayed at Nickelodeon resort. Free shuttle to Disney. Wouldn't recommend it. Wife thought she had it covered with $3500. Boy was she wrong!!! Ended up costing way over 6k!!! I attribute that to poor planning......

toodeep 03-12-2012 02:37 PM

going in may staying in wilderness lodge. there is a book my wife got from disney that tells you how to avoid crowds in parks. we will see how that will work.

Best way to go ..... and stay at old key west

ckinchen 03-12-2012 05:18 PM

Wilderness lodge is nice, the campground is worth trying. Stay at a property on the grounds and not one of the all-star sports ones if you can avoid it. We have been six or seven times, the shuttle system works really well. Be prepared to spend alot of money on food.

Laslty, if you don't do anything else MAKE sure you get to the parks at least 30 mintues before they open. Hit the main attractions EARLY. Use the fast pass system when you need to, it works well. You can also download an app for your iphone that posts updated wait times for rides and other information.

If you do what the book tells you it does work except at peak times .
