Lacassine Pool report

DON'T GO!!!

On the water at 6:45am and fished till 1pm with ZERO FISH.....Did not even see a bream

Spoke with a biologist at the landing loading the boat and he said they almost scratched seining last week...

He said when the drought last summer forced all the fish in the channels they just ate each other and had no spawn last year

As of 1pm at the check station coming out there was a GRAND TOTAL of 9 Bass caught with the biggest little under 6lbs

Bluechip 03-15-2012 02:19 PM

Wow.....that's a tragedy that such a great fishery has turned into that.

Thanks for the report.

BIG RED 1983 03-15-2012 02:27 PM

Thanks for the update w

YellowMouth7 03-15-2012 02:31 PM

WOW I know there will be a lot of heartache going on in the SC fam

Armand16 03-15-2012 02:34 PM

That guy said he saw a lot of good fish when they shocked it so the fish are there. Going from zero pressure to a few hundred boats is prob the cause.... I hope

Biologist we talked to said the biggest they saw was little over 7 but 16 total bass on that many shocks...

Going to be a long time......Never fished the POOL and caught nothing

There was not that much boat pressure as we fished by our selves most of the day with out any boats in sight!!..

Guy I fished with is a regular in the pool and he said this is bad..very bad...

NO FISH...Not a tadpole ...nothing ............we did not see A FISH...No Signs of FISH.....

you have 16,000 acres of water now so in a few years it should build back up but this year is a waist

Armand16 03-15-2012 02:45 PM

That ant good. At least there's something to look forward to.

CWLeblanc 03-15-2012 03:45 PM

A buddy of mine caught a 5.6 that's the only good fish that I have heard of so far.

noodle creek 03-15-2012 04:26 PM

After seeing it this past November it was pretty clear there wasn't going to be many fish in there. Talked to several people who fish there for years and are always successful at sight fishing. None of them had caught a fish.

inchspinner 03-15-2012 04:31 PM

Gators gobbled that sheet up in the drought at the end of last year....stick to da speckle fish bru.....

homerun 03-15-2012 04:31 PM

how was water level?

Ray 03-15-2012 05:08 PM

I got a friend and his wife and son went last weekend and did pretty good.
Didn't limit out, but all fish were good sized. They had 10 fish, none under 1.5 lbs.

huntin fool 03-15-2012 05:08 PM

So we've established something out of this all. Don't believe the interweb

BigChaf 03-15-2012 05:27 PM

Just have to check it out yourself, a nice ride in the Pool will be good therapy!!!!

Check Point

I was there since yesterday helping prepare for opening day and slept out on the road. As of 4:30pm I had no fish and the folks at the check point said only 2 fish had be reported. The check point where the pavement ends going into Lacassine the one where the 10 state trooper cars created the check point to check insurance, registration, inspection and the one Wildlife office looking in your ice chest said they had seen two fish out of everyone leaving. I don't see how anyone could of fished out there and not seen another boat as there was at least 75 trucks and trailers from what I counted. I went all over that place in some places that you have to a gator tail to get to and still ran into people out there fishing. People where trying hard to fish that is for sure. I will find out the count from the counters at the boat launches that were in place when we pull them. I will be out there tomorrow working as I took today off to fish. Yes there are still fish out there as I saw them when they did the testing. Not in large numbers for sure. What I did notice is there gators were hungry and a little aggressive. I had two come close to my boat and check out by bait. I had one take my coworkers ribbit and break his line. I have never seen that happen in all the years I have been going out there. I saw one eat something but not sure what it grabbed. I did not seen very many turtles either. I saw more turtles 3 weeks ago when we checked water levels. Just my two cents and if your going tomorrow make sure everything you have is in check as they boys in blue will be back again to write more tickets.

DWA 03-15-2012 08:21 PM

Top Dawg 03-15-2012 08:38 PM

Yea they looked at em. Wlf told us the same thing. I'm wondering if they were just telling everyone this. I don't see why they would. Seems like they would want everyone in there to write tickets.

Ray 03-15-2012 08:39 PM

Just texted his son. They was at Toledo Bend.

It should say on the pamphlet and at the entrance to the pool. If you call, you probably would be better off calling the Lacassine or Cameron Prairie office as they regulate the refuge and not the state.

"W" 03-16-2012 04:07 PM

I just talked to the game wardens for 45mins at Heberts landing ...they were at the pool all day yesterday and he said not a signal boat checked in more that 3 fish......not saying someone is giving false info but I told him a guy said he caught 15 bass....he said well he lied to the wardens when he left because 15 bass were not caught all day according to WLF paperwork this morning

Also anyone who is caught fishing behind the weir signs ...the fines have increased from what I'm hearing

Country Boy 03-16-2012 04:48 PM

They don't call him Top Dawg for nothing, thats why he caught, cause he is TOP DAWG.
