I thought I'd share a picture of some fish I caught with my father-in-law on Sunday. I know the fishing is always good in Louisiana, but the unseasonably warm spring here in Indiana has the fish more active than usual this time of year.

I had to Google that as I have never heard them called that. The father-in-law caught the two crappie, I caught a few red ear sunfish and we both caught a few bass and bluegill.

While we are educating you......we don't have Bluegill in Louisiana. We have Bream.

huntin fool already enlightened me, but I do find it interesting that you have such different names for fish down there.

That's because of all the Native American and French influenced names used around here. Most of our rivers and bayou's are Native American names too. Atchafalaya river, Tchufuncte river, Lake Maurepas. Lot's of Indian names in Mississippi too!
Sacaulait = sack of milk or milk sack. Kinda like cafe' au lait = coffe milk.

Google. I have family that lives in Pineville and I was planning on visiting this year. I was trying to find some information about going on a gator hunt.

If you want to go on a gator hunt you better bring your piggy bank. Its not a cheap hunt. You should come down for the Salty Cajun tournament this summer. You kind of look like a cajun in that picture, hope you can drink like one!!! lol

Nope....lait in french means milk. Crappie have milky white meat and old coonazzes use to catch them by the sack. Sacalait fit well. Cajun french has several meanings for each word. My gpaw tried to teach me but never got the hang of it for that reason.

you hang around here long and you will sell off everything up there and move down here, especially if you come fish down here.
