Anyone know if I should get stitches or wrap this thing???

specktator 04-04-2012 10:08 AM

Damn that's nasty..I would get stitches.

SaltERedneck 04-04-2012 10:08 AM

pm dr. jay.... but stitches will help the wound close correctly. prolly need a shot of antibiotics... are you up to date on your tetanus shots???

Montauk17 04-04-2012 10:08 AM

If you wait too long they won't be able to stitch it...looks like u need em,how u did dat?

jchief 04-04-2012 10:11 AM

Stitches, especially since it is on the knee that flexes alot.

No hadn't had a tetanus shot in a while. Got drunk at bull**** bingo last night and decide to wrestle a friend when we got home. Stupid. I would really like to avoid stitches but I'm not sure this thing will heal without em.

mriguy 04-04-2012 10:11 AM

Stitches.........STAT!

SaltERedneck 04-04-2012 10:15 AM

stitches help approximate the wound edges an inner lining. it will take longer to heal without them. it needs to actually be cleaned thoroughly making sure there are no foreign bodies. you dont want grit and grime healing in that area. can make for a nasty painful infection. urgent care will help you out. you def need the tetanus and antibiotics. thats too deep not to recommend stitches.

jgannard 04-04-2012 10:16 AM

Yea stitches for sure, you dont want that to get infected.

swamp snorkler 04-04-2012 10:20 AM

To late for stitches, go to the drug store and get some sterri strips and you will be fine. Wash it our really good first with some peroxide or alchohol and then put some monkey blood and you will be fine.

Duck Butter 04-04-2012 10:24 AM

They are gonna have to get that wire brush out and clean it up before they stitch it:eek: Been there done that got the tshirt. That needs stitches

jlincecum 04-04-2012 10:25 AM

being where its at and how deep it is I would say stitches

YellowMouth7 04-04-2012 10:28 AM

Go to ER now

Red Devil 04-04-2012 10:31 AM

My wife had a cut in the same spot 2 weeks ago. Took 8 stitches to close it afte alot of disenfectant. Took hers out day before yesterday.

SaltERedneck 04-04-2012 10:34 AM

honestly it all depends on the facility/dr.... some suture wounds within 24hr some within 12hr.... some 6hr... foreign bodies, environment exposure, location, depth etc play an important role in whether or not you will receive stitches. there are other ways to approximate the edges which one would be steri strips, kerlex roles, etc. . dr has to make the call whether or not there is a high infection risk. dont wanna sew up some nasty stuff thats been lingering in that wound for the past 12 hrs.

cut

Good wound clean up, tetanus shot update, and yes stitches are needed mainly because there's too much flexing and extension of the skin around this area to heal well just with steri-strips or butterfly bandages.

fishinpox 04-04-2012 11:12 PM

I would just clean it our with some rubbing alcohol hold it closed n squirt super glue all over it n hold it till it dries w/o gluing your fingers to your knee! Then maybe put some newsprint around it n bandage it up

My father had the same wound about 10 yrs ago from an air boat accidient. being from the old school with a head like a brick he did not get it stitched, and just kept it clean with peroxide and neosporin every day with gaws and tape pulled together. The problem is the location of the wound, its in such a highly stretched area that it wanted to keep opening. I took a lil time , but eventually healed.

simplepeddler 04-05-2012 08:39 AM

Having had a similar wound in the same place, perpetuated on me by a chainsaw.........I highly recommend stitches..........

But what did you do?
