All you SALTYCAJUN guys in the know, I need a new electric knife for fileting
fish. What works the best ? I have a Hamilton beach, and good for turkey but a little bulky for trout.

There was a thread about fillet knives that haf alot of talk about electric ones ypu might try that. My uncle has had a mister twister for years now and swears by them......

IF you stay away from the ribs in reds, drum, then any of em are ok. I had an American Angler that lasted 5 years. I use a Hamilton Beach now.

Hands down Hamilton Beach....

I bought a mista twister and it broke after cleaning half a sacalait last Friday. I wish I new where I could walk in and buy another american angler.

Hamilton Beach with extra blades . Keep a new set for them redfish ,and use the old ones on the trout.

I think Academy sells American Angler. I prefer Mister Twister when I use one. Mostly use the old fashioned straight knife.

I use a Rapala cordless...comes with two batteries, but one fully charged will get you through a cooler of fish

I have a cordless rapala. Ate through 2 limits of trout the other day with ease on a 30 minute charge. Little bit more expensive than the Mister twister but well worth the money simply for th mobility!

I have a Rapala that runs off the boat or truck batteries. Pluggs into the cigarete lighter. I would rather clean them before I head home. Works good. The only issue I had was a 29 and 30 inch red. Got it done, but was a little rough.

I use an American Angler- curved blade- and bought a Dremil round stone and resharpen my blades myself. This stone is what is used to sharpen chain saw blades. It is about the diameter of a small straw. You let it ride in the concaves of the serrated blade and it works well. Just slightly run it in each concave and your good to go. Before and during a bunch of reds you can touch up your blade in 2 minutes. Not sure the size of the concaves in the other brands so don't know if the dremil stone would work on them.

Hamilton Beach. I've had mine for over 10 years and it works like a charm and has cleaned many a fish and carved many a turkey. I had a pair of them when I had my camp in GI and they were used and abused for years, but kept working just fine.

The last electric knife I bought [~6 months ago] was a Hamilton Beach........ Don't think I will buy another.

This knife gets very hot while using it. If I have a limit of Trout and maybe a Red or 2..... I have to stop cleaning for a while to let it cool down. The handle gets so hot I can not hold the knife. Maybe I should have put some gloves on to try that.

Anyone else have this problem?

American angler and Hamilton beach

I have a mister twista for years and recently bought a Hamilton beach to see what all the fuss was about. Well I was cleaning catfish with the new Hamilton beach and It leterly got too hot to hold and for me the trigger placement is awkward. Back to the old mister twista. Got a hamilton beach for sale if anyone wants!!
