Went to Venice today with my fiancé, hit Breton island first thing and put a few nice trout in the boat. Decided to run down river to chase mangroves and cobia . So made the 20 mike run back to the river and another 25 down river. Hit east bay to find green water but didn't stop till we hit 250+ ft of pretty water. Saw a 150lb+ tarpon jump 2-3 times in east bay and about crapped myself ! Started bottom fishing, chunking for mangroves and was instantly hit with a drag peeler .... Kori was hooked up to a tuna, she passed the rod off to me n I landed it . Caught some 10-13 lb mangroves chunking / drifting. Caugh a bull croaker on a butterfly jig . Caught red snapper galore but had to throw back . On the way in saw a school of yft crushing bait but didn't stop cuz we had to make it home

Pic of a few of the fish I'll post more when I dig em out of the ice

What an awesome trip! I have never fished down there but always wanted to. Anybody want a second boat to try a trip after May 15th let me know. I'm game. I run a 22' Blazer Bay. Pox you don't get nervous running that far out alone with a single engine?

It's not that far out in Venice . It gets deep quick . If u had binoculars u prolly could have barley seen the ships going into SW pass. There's always that chance but it's not like we were 60 miles out. The majority of the run is in the river

mr crab 05-06-2012 12:35 PM
