Mickey Shunick

Guys,
We need to come together and find this GIRL! I know we had a thread that started earlier, but this has to stay on the front page! Casey said he'd help, I just want to get some info to all of the SaltyCajun brotherhood! Please keep your eyes and ears open, I think they are still looking for a Z71 4 door that was around the LCG around university.

Please report anything to Lafayette police @ 337-291-8633

Find Mickey web site is http://findmickeynow.com/

CajunSaint 05-31-2012 08:41 PM

Man I have 2 boys and I'd be like a lost Soul if one of them had JUST VANISHED!!

bull1134 05-31-2012 10:01 PM

it's very sad, happened a few blocks from my house, and I left for fishin just an hour or two after is supposedly happened. it's terrible when young women can't ride or walk home without a chance of being taken, kids might get snatched out of their front yards. If yall ever see something like that, run the bastards over, and just for good measure, go ahead, throw it in reverse, and get em a second time!

Salty 05-31-2012 11:04 PM

I heard on the news that it was like 2:00 am that she was reported missing. Why was she riding a bicycle at that time of day?

Lake Chuck Duck 05-31-2012 11:30 PM

I heard they found the vehicles in question and ruled them out as suspects. They said her bike looked like it was hit. Wonder if someone is covering an accident. So sad! But in this day and age pretty girls should know better than to walk or ride a bike home at night. Especially at 2 in the morning for 4 miles. Wishing for the best.

jdm4x43732 06-01-2012 06:29 AM

Anyone wanting to help, searches leave out at 8 every morning from Blackham Colesium. They are also accepting donations of money, food, drink, and other supplies. There is a list of things they need that I've seen somewhere.

DUCKGOGETTER 06-01-2012 06:46 AM

Prayers sent to all involved

specktator 06-01-2012 07:08 AM

It's extremely sad. He bike was damaged. Rear rim was bent. I think that a drunk college kid accidentally hit her and killed her, freaked out and threw her and her bike in the back of his truck, and dumped her in the river and her bike at whiskey bay. Now whoever it is, is probably too scared to come forward. In Lafayette, after 2am, there are probably more drunk drivers on the road than sober drivers.

I agree she also shouldn't have been driving ACROSS Lafayette(4 miles) at 2am.

FF_T_Warren 06-01-2012 07:10 AM

Ima be honest I think they were trying to cover an accident. 2am, beat up bike, sounds like a drunk driving accident trying to be covered up. Just my .02.

I was thinking the same thing.....she should not have been riding a bike at 2 am thats is asking for trouble. Sucks for the family I would be lost without my brothers.

Of the 3 vehicles originally captured on video, only 2 have been ruled out. As of this morning, the white Z71 is still not identified.

Seems like a logical thought. Hopefully she is found so the family can have some closure.

Prayers to the family.

What are the chances it's still white?

Chance? The video was enhanced and reviewed via the FBI.......not sure what more is needed. The camera was located outside the City/Parish building covering the parking lot looking toward the Circle K, so it did not get a plate #.

Could be painted by now

LaAngler 06-01-2012 09:20 AM

I can't figure out whether they found her bike at the launch to the west of 975 on the channel or the one towards bayou de glaise, between the spans. Either way, if she went into that pilot channel I don't think sonar will find her.

My other guess, I think someone may have used a boat to haul her further in. The thickets and bogs are terrible ground for searchers.

Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft, though he offered no details, confirms a tip The Independent received that detectives investigating the disappearance of UL student Mickey Shunick have interviewed 19-year-old Rocky James Mcgee in connection with the case.

Sounds like that McGee person was the target of a witch hunt.

Ratdog 06-06-2012 02:48 PM

Went search for two days.
They got problems!
Guys with delusions of grandure " I Wana be the one that finds her " an from the same person " I just turned down a movie deal cuz they offerd to little money "

An the ex cops there did nothing to inspire trust or if anything tRied to discourage looking.

See what happens when I try to be nice or feel bad for someone.

I feel like an idiot for going.......people that I was put with bummed smokes all day.........man who would go do this and not prepare them selves for the day.

An to see someone ask for asprin for tHe day and take half a bottle ......what the hell must be people that **** on me here.

Never again!

BIG RED 1983 06-06-2012 02:51 PM

That's why I didn't go help. Thought about getting a crew from the station to go, but I figured it would be a mass cluster over there.

What's wrong with people like that? A rotten corpse is not something you want to see. That's an image that you can never get rid of. I really feel bad for the family, but leave the work to the professionals. Next thing you know there would be pictures of her body all over Facebook, if one of those attention seeking yuppies found her.

Too bad really. It sucks that there are slugs "aiding" in the search for this young woman. I'd be glad to volunteer me and my boat for the weekend if anyone thinks it would help. I'm assuming they're checking the water and such at this point right? I've got the boat that could get in some tight and shallow spots.

It's just my opinion but I think the ex law guys need to be out of it too.

An if not then a cyco analysis person needs to be present .

Ex officers an sherries need to stay in bounds no access to background checks etc. they might put da foot in da mouth an see info they don't want to see.

Time has passed and still some no not what SAR is or means and if u ask .....well I found no one to answer.

Real bad ........ I feel for them people but the public effort has gone arie and well it should shut down and the family needs to stay in contact with just the police. Too many weirdos and well I don't think from what I saw they got family truly at their interests.

And if I go look for a dead body again and I get a good luck wish again I will knock somebody out and I don't give a flying f if they are an ex sherif. That's just discusting. And sad.

LSUfan 06-08-2012 11:48 AM

so sad! please bring Mickey back home!

Lake Chuck Duck 06-08-2012 12:24 PM

News reported a body washed up in st. Louis bay but it wasn't her.

Ratdog 06-08-2012 01:34 PM

In my opinion the investigation doesn't just need to continue but be steped up!

I have lived in saints streets for years.

Louisiana for ever.

But when a ten year old out of the blue says " why is it louisiana only gets in the news for bad stuff. " it hurts.

I believe too much over zellus public help no matter how well intended can hinder progress.

And yes please please bring mikky home . Someone

Ratdog 06-08-2012 03:52 PM

Last thing I want to add .

If u got money an want to help.
Give it directly to the sister. Or to the law inforcment.

Not to the others. I think it will best be used that way.

Ratdogpottery out..............v-vill is we're it's at.

Here we go again. Last time we had hear say it wasnt true, and that pisses people off in situations like these.

mallard matt 06-19-2012 05:54 PM

I have been told that the police basically know who did it and there just waiting to build a case and they dont expect to find her alive.Very sad i hope they give who ever was involved the death penalty.

BayBolt23 06-19-2012 06:39 PM

Sounds right because they are keeping everything tight lipped over here

CajunSaint 06-20-2012 02:53 PM

Divers are searching the Whiskey Bay area again. KATC checked with Lafayette police about possible new developments in Mickey Shunick's disappearance, but Cpl. Kyle Soriez says investigators have nothing new. He says divers have continually searched the area during the investigation.

For those that are not familiar with the Atchafalaya river "Pilot channel", it was dug [ie. man made] to help with the water flow during major flooding. Even during normal river conditions there is a good current and the river bottom drops off quickly as you leave the bank. I have had my boat in this area a couple of times.

IMO.....if a person was dumped in the river, it could be miles down stream in a few hours. The river is fairly straight for 20+ miles south of I-10.

FYI.... for any deer hunters, there is some awesome swamp bottom land that is owned by the state [ie. public land] south of I-10 in that area.
