30k limit, what to get

I sold my 2110 couple weeks ago, and im starting to search for a used rig again. Dont really want to go over 30k, looking for something 22ft w/ at least 200hp. The 2110 was underpowered w/ the f150 and the ride was very wet in the chop...layout was strong, which is the main reason i bought the rig. Im currently considering a 22 lts, 2220 blazer, 2200v, 22 purebay, etc. curious to hear some opinions on what to consider and what not to consider, pros and cons from owners of some of these rigs. I dont plan on buying really soon, i was going to wait and hit a winter deal like i did last year. thanks for the feedback.

GT11 06-20-2012 08:18 PM

Just sold my Blue Wave a couple of weeks ago too and started looking for a 22ft with a 200+ on it. Looking at the Nautic Star...like the storage and fished with Jared recently in his 24....nice boat. A dealership in FL is advertising new 22' Sports with a 150 for $29K and there are a couple of used Tourney Editions with 200's for $25K - $30K in Houston. Planning to wait until the fall also to buy.

Love my 2220 Blazer Bay! Its a 2008 model and I run the Yamaha 250 HPDI. No complaints about the boat.

PUREBAY2200 06-20-2012 08:43 PM

purebay2200 is underpowered with the 150... 200 is ok... the 225 is perfect.

look at the frontier with a 200 opti.

fishinpox 06-20-2012 08:43 PM

triton triton triton !! i have a 240ltspro and the storm i got caught in 25 miles offshore made me a even stronger believer in triton lts series !!!

What kind of numbers you put up with this setup? mph/mpg

that will kinda blow the budget:eek:...... but it is a nice boat:D.

"BB22" 06-20-2012 09:01 PM

To be honest, I've never really checked MPG,I figure it is what it is. MPH, 57 full tank of fuel 2 people

Reel Aquaholic 06-20-2012 09:12 PM

I have the 2110 with a 150 and the power seems good enough. I'm not in any kind of race. If I were you I'd skip the 22' and go for the 24'. Seems to me 22 is not much of a step up. I fished from both and the 24 is a much more noticeable difference. My next boat will be a 24'. Preferably the LTS. That thing is a tank.

there is a used one in br 2004 model...i still consider it because i believe it to be a solid hull and i hear the ride is unmatched. i thought about getting it and repowering few years down the road. it does not look that bad, comes with a 225 opti. other than the hull there is nothing impressive though. guy is asking 22500. i would love to take it out in lake pelto with a 10-15mph wind and see just how well they actually perform.

I had mine out in 30mph wind true 4' seas last Friday ( not by choice) n it handled business , now am I telling you to make a habit of doin that no but when put into the situation I make it back safe and nothing was loose/ broke on my boat . The next day 20 -25 moh east winds in timbilier bay i could run 35-40 mph no problems if you wanna go cut donuts in lake p n run thru em I'll take you on a test drive... You will be sold

It is pretty much impossible these days to buy a new bay boat for 30k. Of course, the exception is the Nautic Star 2110 but you just had one of those. If you are buying used there are lots of boats out there for under 30k. In addition to the ones you mentioned, the Key West 216 is a hell of a boat and the Tidewater has a great reputation as being very well built, especially considering its price.

It only took Pox one ride in my 24lts and he bought his the next week

If you can wait for the right deal you can find one in your price range. I only paid a couple thousand more than you want to spend for mine with a four stroke suzuki 250, powerpole, jackplate, gps, tm, trimtabs

alphaman 06-21-2012 10:50 AM

Saw on 2 coolfishing there is a 2005 triton 24lts with 225 Honda 4 stroke for 32k

swamp snorkler 06-21-2012 10:59 AM

When looking you going to buy what want but here's a little site to help you along the way. www.searchtempest.com

drbones 06-21-2012 02:25 PM

I will be selling my 2200 lts this winter to get a 24 footer. Boat runs great has 200 Yamaha salt water series. Probably ask 25k. 2005 boat with 2006 motor. Kept in boat house good condition

Slidellkid 06-21-2012 08:27 PM

You can buy a Frontier at Lake Area Marine for around 30k but that is before taxes, electronics and other options. You can also but a Tidewater 2100 for about the same price in Texas and down in Houma.

ricky2110 06-24-2012 09:35 AM

anyone seen the 24ft skeeter with 300hpdi on sportsman? wondering what you guys think about this. It has everything I want and then some. thoughts opinions welcome.

Anyone with experience on the Z2200 shearwater? It has a 250 pro xs on the rear.

Tonka337 07-04-2012 01:35 PM

Kajun Dave runs a 22' Shearwater with a 250 Yamy. That thing is bad azz!!! At 4000rpms/45mph. It doesn't get much better than that my friend.

That triton is bad to the bone . . . . . . . minus the motor

That shearwater is nice as well, I am running a 225 ProXS and will own many more of them. I love that motor so if thats whats holding you back dont let it!
Only problems they really had that i heard of was the coils goin bad and they did a recall on some years and will replace them if you have a problem

Also i dont know if it matter to you rather the boat is linered or rolled edge but Josh Lincecum has a Blue Wave 220 V-bay wich is a machine!! I guided out of it for a while when i was waiting for my haynie its an excellent fishing boat very very roomy he is asking alot less than you are looking to spend but dont let that fool you that truly is an awesome boat i know first hand and it will handle some rough water great.
If you are interested shoot me a PM and ill tell you all my ideas on what i would personally do on the boat.
Also have alot of pics of it if you want them.

Good luck with the boat hunt!

ricky2110 07-05-2012 12:58 PM

The thing keeping me away from the shearwater is the pro xs. I work with three other people who have one, two of the three are on their second lower unit, all have had coil problems, one had to change a $500 pump, and there was one more problem but I cant think of it right now. I would hate to spend 35k on a boat and motor that seems destin to give me trouble (sooner rather than later) with out any warrenty, leaving me to pick up the tab, and lost time on the water. If it had some more warrenty left, i would be on my way to texas to pick the boat up. I can honestly see my self out on that rig, stuck in BFE because of a motor problem. I realize I take that chance with any other boat I have taken out there to the islands, but the odds of this one giving me trouble seems to be greater than I had hoped. I feel like im taking a 35k gamble on the shearwater. I know the pro xs is powerful and I would love to go 60+ in a bad azz bay boat but at what cost in the end?

PUREBAY2200 07-05-2012 09:00 PM

I've been n ruff stuff; and yea it's not a ride like a triton.
But it's a great layout, great, design and well built.
I know what it saying about the ruff water capabilities/ ride.... But it's a very nice boat.

SaltyShaw 07-05-2012 11:37 PM

Nice boat no doubt just not very impressed wit over all performance, for our fishery at least

Entertaining thoughts and opinions on the 09 blackjack in the sale forum. I know Im over 30k with it but wth. Whats it really worth? blue book has it lower than he is asking if I am looking right. What performance numbers should I expect?

I was a day away from ordering a 2011 blackjack with a 300 yammy until I found a used 2009 triton 240lts pro . I always wonder would I like the the speed of the black jack with the 300 ( 69mph) better than the ride and comfort of the 24'triton. If you are comparing the 22' triton to the 22' Bj get the Bj but if you can get the 24' triton I'd get it over the Bj ....more options as far as going offshore ect

ricky2110 07-10-2012 08:39 PM

I am looking at a blackjack now and was told they will hit 63 with a 250 SHO (optimal load of course).

coastalobsession 07-11-2012 11:22 AM

Find a used Trans SVT cat. The 20 foot rides like a 23 in rough water. It can also fish 4 people with no problem.
