Rant

Ever feel like you can't win??

Went to doctor Tues. Been having hip issues for a couple of years and it is getting progressively worse. Well, I have a tear in the labrum and a couple of bone spurs. Get to talking to doctor and tell him we have a trip with Josh in October to catch some tuna. Too soon after surgery for me to go. Ok, so wait till after trip, 2 month recovery, most of duck and deer season gone.

If son wasn't coming on offshore trip, I would do it right now, but this will be his first and maybe only. Really want to go on that one.

Watch, with my luck, weather will cancel the trip.

That is some awful damn pain. My labrum tear was very small. They tried the shot route first before surgery. So far I am doing great. Good luck man!

Cortisone should get you by for now....

BaseballFisherman 08-23-2012 06:34 PM

I had a labrum tear and bone spurs in my right hip as well. My injury was sports related and I had surgery to have it repaired. I had the labrum stitched up, cartilage anchored back down, and I also had debridement on the head of my femur to get rid of the bone spurs....the whole nine yards. It is much better now playing ball again compared to the way it felt before surgery. It still has its days and I definitely have to take care of it every day, but I am very active with baseball. If you need any insight to the surgery, procedures, etc., then just shoot me a PM. I'd be glad to let you know what to expect (if you don't already know).

jchief 08-23-2012 09:23 PM

Man I wish. I tried 3 injections and only get about a week out.of em. As soon as they call, I am going to have it. Paul has said be would coordinate the 20h trio for me.

jchief 08-23-2012 09:27 PM

Oh, Salty, if I were you I would seriously consider hip replacement. I am too young is why they don't want to do mine.

jchief 08-23-2012 09:30 PM

I am seeing Cascio at LCMH supposed.to be one of the best in the country. He said he does.200 of these a year and he did Kristi Yamaguchi's hip

SULPHITE 08-23-2012 10:18 PM

Casio is very good. I met with Cascio before I had mine done by Marc Philipon in Vail, Colorado. Philipon pioneered the arthroscopic hip surgery and invented the tools used for the surgery. Cascio studied and trained under Philipon before coming to Lake Charles.

Tried to work through mine for a year and a half. Failed when I was doing snatch squats. Not a good feeling when your shoulder drops out and you can't raise it a foot off your side.

Cascio handles the surgeries for Mcneese. I saw a surgeon back home who specialized in shoulders and elbows. I'm 100% other than the little range of motion I lost.

I probably don't notice the pain as much as I would if my back weren't so screwed up. If it got much worse I would seriously consider a replacement, but, never surgery on my back. Too much stuff needs fixin'. :smokin:

Get your components ordered . . . you'll have some time to build rods ;)

I'm nowhere near a medical expert, but, I was told the same thing by someone that is.

Good luck, J, whatever you decide.

This is a second opinion. Been battling it for 2 years. Between back, neck and now hip, ENOUGH. something gotta give. As soon as he can do it I am having it done.

1fastmerc 08-24-2012 09:20 PM

Good luck buddy. I hope and pray that you have a fast recovery.

Surgery in January and got cleared to train in August. It was a solid 8 months but my tears were fairly bad. Had some bone that had to be shaved too.

Sling for 8 weeks. Pt started after 4. Lost a lot of weight. Surgery at 210 came to physicals at 171 pounds. It was a full year before it felt "normal" but I was fishing that whole spring. I Just couldn't cast with my right arm in the beginning.

If you're seriously considering surgery get a couple opinions. But I will say I'm glad I had it done otherwise I'd be in pain later.

Finally got the doctor's office to call and schedule surgery. Sept 19. Hoping I am getting around decent in a week. At least able to drive by then. Wife don't think so.
