Teal and Isaac

Some of the guys I work with are all upset saying our teal season is shot now. They hunt south of Crowley in rice fields and one north of Roanoke. What say you? I think it may have pushed a few away but I can't imagine it has that large of affect.

Duck Butter 08-30-2012 08:47 AM

Will be better in my opinion, teal have been dealing with hurricanes long before we arrived. There are plenty here already and plenty more will come down.

DUCKGOGETTER 08-30-2012 08:47 AM

With all the rain it will scatter them for awhile, but i still think it's early enough to where it won't have that big of an impact.

lsufish 08-30-2012 08:51 AM

I think for the people that hunt in SWLA this could be an unbeliavable teal season. I disagree with your co workers.

That place is usually some good huntin!

DUCKGOGETTER 08-30-2012 09:46 AM

My wifes uncle plowed in mermentau cove and is surrounded by rice fields, and he told me that he's been watching thousands of teal every day. He told me he's gonna start flooding next week so that looks like that's where i'll be opening weekend. We did this the year before last and slaughtered them at his place. Let's get it i'm ready!!!!!

lol!!!!!!!! I know, i know it's just really hard to pass it up over there, cause the year before last we did the same thing and opening morning 7 of us had our limit before 7 o'clock. Once the shooting starts it's total mayhem. I'm gonna be in gc next weekend getting the blind ready, cause i'm gonna hunt in gc just might not be opening weekend.

Swlatiger 08-30-2012 10:00 AM

It's almost here!!!!! I can't freakin wait!

noodle creek 08-30-2012 10:06 AM

They're dumb it's gonna be an at least average teal season. Probably better

noodle creek 08-30-2012 10:08 AM

This rain water will be gone in 2 weeks, the middle of the country is a desert, and. Ow southeast louisiana marshes are all going to be dead. That equals absolute teal slam in SW louisiana

DUCKGOGETTER 08-30-2012 10:12 AM

Man this is my favorite time of year!!! Football season, start of hunting and cooler weather.

About what area do y'all hunt in Mermentau Cove? That's where we duck hunt all year.

about 2 miles south of thibideaux farms if i had to guess it's my wifes uncles property.

jlincecum 08-30-2012 12:19 PM

some of the best teal action I've had was right after Ike went through. Me and the paw-in-law were shooting teal with the winds sticking 35-40.

specksNdaSURF 08-30-2012 12:20 PM

i really dont think it will impact our teal season in P.I. .......but if ur in an area that got a bad storm surge then yes i would agree that the birds may be scattered due to more water

Cool. We hunt just a couple miles away in some rice fields and we do pretty good.

You will. Last year teal season was great and it was salt water. This year, fresh water, wigeon grass everywhere = duck smash

x2!!!! I was looking at the big burns the other day as i passed and the ducks and pooldoo are gonna have a buffet when they get down here.

cmcnabb 08-30-2012 01:54 PM

I'm still haven't heard the "I heard they are closing duck season because of the hurricane" rumor. It's only a matter of time before someone starts it up though

RainMaker 08-30-2012 02:10 PM

The teal are still here and they won't go anywhere....We have a bunch of food plus there is ample water through out the state....Even if the storm would have blown them out, its still early enough for them to come back....Plenty of teal down as we speak....F.Y.I. If the midwest and mid region of U.S. don't get any rain this spring, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4 duck limit during regular season with the breeding grounds dry....

bgizzle 08-30-2012 02:43 PM

They getting some now. I'm going to blind now to see what the water looks like. I'll report later this afternoon.
P.s.- full moon tomorrow!!!!!!

bigtuna895 08-30-2012 05:04 PM

I heard they are closing duck season because of the hurricane!!!!! Anybody else hear the same???

bgizzle 08-30-2012 07:04 PM

The birds haven't left they are here. Not as many but still got a **** ton!!!!

Top Dawg 08-30-2012 07:18 PM

Season closed. Worst hurricane to ever hit LA devastated all marshlands.;)

Nasty 08-30-2012 08:01 PM

The best early teal season I have ever been apart of was in the marshes after Rita...like blackbirds that year!

Shawn Braquet 08-30-2012 08:20 PM

Well i just found out that I most likely will be losing my Johnson Bayou lease this year, damn investors! Hopefully I'm just being pedtimistic, last years teal season was a blast. I may just have to join the refuge crowd for opening day of teal season.

bgizzle 08-30-2012 08:33 PM

One thing I did see. Man the mottled ducks are Tik Tik!

DUCKGOGETTER 08-31-2012 06:58 AM

A guy at work told me that the teal are insanley thick at his place in klondike.

huntin fool 08-31-2012 10:34 PM

Word is from inside resource (sounded better than a buddy) of Cameron praire that teal is twice as thick this year. Should be best in awhile.

They sure aren't down Pintail Drive. Been down there twice in the last couple weeks and haven't seen any. I hope they are twice as thick though!!!!

DUCKGOGETTER 09-01-2012 07:04 AM

I should have a teal report on the west side of miami today. My dads neighbor is going to work their blinds.
