TEAL!!!

1 Attachment(s)
Went down to sweetlake this morning and my God, they teal were thicker than Mosquitos. Literally thousands of birds in the rice mixed teal and just as many squealers. I've had reports from the thornwell area of the same. Here is a pic of my buddy's field in thornwell.

I didn't get a pic in sweetlake but imagine that wad in the pic as far as the eye could see!

meaux fishing 09-03-2012 01:11 PM

That makes me happy

cajunforeman 09-03-2012 01:43 PM

Thats good to see. We just back from ours and didn't see a bird.

shellman 09-03-2012 02:14 PM

Nice...

DUCKGOGETTER 09-04-2012 12:19 PM

Spent the day at a buddys house yesterday and he showed me some video he took of his place in sweetlake and it was ridiculous the amount of birds they had on their farm. They were at the blind working and the birds were coming into the pond constantly.

Just passed by our rice field and saw about 50 or so, but 2nd crop is tall so could be more....

The best thing about teal season is even if your spot isn't holding any birds right now, more than likely you will still shoot your limit opening morning! They tend to come out of the woodwork.

Yes your right.....I have never not limited out on open weekend ......before rita we had one year were after 1st week it got slow

Top Dawg 09-04-2012 02:05 PM

From my experience marsh hunting gets better later in the teal season. But last year it was good all year in some places. Rice fields tend to get shot out quick.

lsufish 09-04-2012 03:14 PM

I hunt in a field near Sweetlake and my teal hunting got progressively better towards the end of the season. The last weekend was the best for me by far. I'm curious to see if the same trend continues or if that was just an anomoly.

GIBob 09-04-2012 03:30 PM

Had teal all last season in Thornwell area.

TealKiller85 09-04-2012 03:59 PM

the fields dont get shot out, you just have to adjust your hunting times. I promise they still go there it just may not be at first light

Top Dawg 09-05-2012 09:10 AM

The fields I have hunted you could sit from daylight til dark and not fire a shot after the first week. Guess it just depends how close your field is to marsh

DUCKGOGETTER 09-05-2012 09:42 AM

I know last year at our marsh we were full of widgeon grass and you couldn't chase them suckers out of there. After we would kill limits they would still be coming in flock after flock. Our marsh looks even better than it did last year so it should be a teal wacking out there. I can't wait!!!!!!!

specksNdaSURF 09-05-2012 10:21 AM

counting the days

DUCKGOGETTER 09-05-2012 12:03 PM

Father-n-law called me and told me he saw a big wad flying over our marsh a little while ago.

bgizzle 09-05-2012 05:52 PM

If never hunted a ricefield in the last 4yrs that you could shoot em out and with the SE marshes salty and screwed up and everyone else droughted we oughta wack n stack until our shoulder ate blue n black.. Lol it's gonna be one for the ages.. Mark my words

bgizzle 09-05-2012 05:53 PM

Teal that is. Big ducks still has a few variables IMO

Micah 09-05-2012 06:04 PM

Seen a flock of about 20 flying over some 2nd crop rice on my way home in Holmwood.

Duck Butter 09-05-2012 07:11 PM

Just drove thru Pine Island and there was a field right next to the road that had at least 3 thousand teal in it. I have pictures and will show em tomorrow. most I have ever seen in one place, many other fields along the way there to Jennings had em also
