I think the better question is:

Would you still join/support CCA if STAR didn't exist?

SULPHITE 10-07-2009 02:15 PM

absolutely

Definately, I didn't even know about the STAR when I first joined the CCA.

cmdrost 10-07-2009 02:19 PM

Its an arguement I hear all the time from CCA bashers.....they claim the only reason CCA membership is so strong is only because of STAR.

I'm sure for alot of people the STAR is the only reason but I think the majority of the people would support it anyway.

LaAngler 10-07-2009 02:29 PM

i am still in but only for STAR and i will think twice about joining depending on what goes on with the snapper catch share stuff coming up..

Ray 10-07-2009 02:46 PM

I grew up in Cameron. I was a recreational fisherman, but I had 100's of friends who were commercial fishermen. When the CCA was pushing for a gill net ban, you would not believe the T-shirts and bumper stickers bashing CCA. I fell into the crowd also, but it was because the whole area was against it. I think it was called GCCA back then.
When inland fishing went to crap, I started fishing offshore. I never put 2 and 2 together. I believed most of the commercial fishermen. When the fishing got better a couple years later, I then believed the gill net ban worked.
I still have issues with the way CCA handles things and some of their ideas. In my opinion, they are like a bull in the china cabinet. The don't seem to want to compremise on any issues. They want it their way and only their way. My opinion is reflected by news articles I read about them in newspapers and fishing/boating magazines, not from any personal experiences I have had with them.
But overall, it is still a good organization cause it helps support my addiction.

Edit: I don't agree with their Snapper ideas either. That is one of my issues.

yak'em-n-stack'em 10-07-2009 03:47 PM

if you look at the money the put into coastal erosion as well as the lobbying they have for the coast it makes it worth the donation

if i had more i would donate more

"W" 10-07-2009 03:53 PM

A Hobie Kayak. I only caught a 3.70lb trout in the surf at Grand Isle, the fish held up all summer. I'll take it.

tumbleweed 10-07-2009 03:55 PM

yak'em have you looked into working with the BTNEP? I did some marsh grass planting with them last year. They are pretty good organization.

yak'em-n-stack'em 10-07-2009 04:01 PM

Yeah I'm in it and fished STAR not sure if i would support it if STAR didnt exist

Raymond 10-08-2009 08:54 PM

For me it is the difference of sitting on your azz and talking about it and getting out there and doing something about it. It is not about the Star or membership dues for me. Everyone on here that bitczes about our new prez has probably never been involved and many have never voted. It is no different than not supporting and being involved in a common interest.
CCA has a larger cross section of socio economic people than any organization I have ever been around which is a plus for everyone.
