Together for Tipper Fundraiser

Hey guys, this is a benefit fundraiser for one of my brother's close friends. He hit his head while in basic training for the National Guard and is now pretty much paralyzed from the chest down. I know alot of people on here like to cook so maybe we could get a SaltyCajun cookoff team together and maybe even collect some money to donate or some prizes to auction off or raffle.

The event will be held December 12 at the Shrimp Festival Grounds in Delcambre. Live bands, cookoff, auction, refreshments. If you have anything you or anyone you know would like to give to the cause, please contact me @ rlandry@al-llc.com or you can contact my mom at alandry@mandllaw.com. Accepting soft drinks, beer, paper products, hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, nachos, hot chocolate, items to auction or raffle, $$$ ..... I will follow up with more details as I receive them.

If you would like to volunteer to help for the event, the next organizational meeting will be on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the Delcambre Shrimp Festival Building.

For those of you who do not know Tipper, he is the son of Marcelle Migues Alexander (originally from Erath) and Chris Esponge and a 2009 graduate of Delcambre High School. Tipper sustained a spinal cord injury on August 25 while at basic training with the National Guards in Fort Benning, Georgia. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at The Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

cook off

What are they cooking in the cook off? I may be interested .

longsidelandry 10-07-2009 02:43 PM

I don't think they decided that yet. They were going to do gumbo but we have a gumbo cookoff/Christmas boat parade at the same place the weekend before that. I'm trying to convince them to do a chili cookoff.

eman 10-07-2009 03:02 PM

chilli

Chilli sounds good , i have a recipe thats won a few comps that i will share w/ the team even if i don't make it.

longsidelandry 10-07-2009 09:17 PM

We will also have camping spots for the cookoff - I think $35. The camper has to be brought in Friday evening. Campers who are cooking will park on the festival grounds first. Non-cooking campers will have to park where the bands play for the festival if the festival grounds fill up.

Everyone,

This is an update on the “Together for Tipper” organizational meeting conducted on Monday evening (10-5-09). The next organizational meeting will take place at 6:30pm on Monday, October 19th in Delcambre at the Shrimp Festival building. Please try to attend.

Here are the issues discussed:
1) An account will be set up with the name “Together for Tipper”. This account will be utilized to accept “gifts” to Tipper. This will be the working account for the “Together for Tipper” fundraiser. Two signatures will be required to write any checks for expenses. Connie Landry, Michael Juan Nunez and Greg Touchet have volunteered to be the signatories on this account. The plan is to set up the account at Gulf Coast Bank. All of the profits from this event will be “gifted” to Tipper. Most likely into a “trust” set up with the express purpose of assisting with his future medical, travel and living needs.
2) Ellen Falgout reported that Lenny with Action Speciality has graciously volunteered to “gift” their services (and the shirts) to make T-shirts for this event. Many thanks to Action Speciality for this generous gift.
3) The “Together for Tipper” fundraiser will be held on Saturday, December 12th, 2009 at the Delcambre Shrimp Festival property in Delcambre from 8am to 10pm.
4) The event will consist of entertainment (music & bands), an auction (live and silent), a poker run, a cook-off on the carnival grounds (the event will allow campers and cooking trailers). Campers will be required to set up on the Friday afternoon/evening.
5) The cookoff will be a “Cajun cookoff” with 3 or 4 categories. The categories will be presented at the next meeting.
6) There will be sales of refreshments (hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, sweets, hot chocolate, pop and water) There will also be a beer tent for beer sales. We are taking “gifts” for “EVERYTHING”. We want to encourage the cook off participants to cook as much as they can and sell their food to raise funds. We will take “gifts” of beverages (beer, pop & water) from any group, person or company that wants to contribute. These “gifts” will NOT be tax deductable by the giver. However, the giver may be able to write the value of the “gift” off as an advertisement expense. Be certain to keep track of any gift and the name/address of the giver.
7) We are also taking “gifts” for the auctions (silent and live). The more valuable items will be placed into the live auction. The auction will be held near the end of the event – probably just before the final band.
8) We will sell tickets for beer and refreshments. Tickets will be $1 a piece. The pricing of items will be decided at the next meeting.
9) A “Together for Tipper” website was discussed. There is a possibility that this website can be established and linked directly to the “Together for Tipper” bank account (maybe via PayPal) to allow “gifts” to be made that way. Content will be required for this website. This is being investigated.
10) The gate entry fee will be $5 and bracelets will be used for entry. There will be an age limit for the entry fee (age limit will be decided at the next meeting).
11) The entertainment line-up and times will be decided at the next meeting. Five bands have committed to perform.
12) Tracy Menard has already started to “get the word out” by putting the “Together For Tipper” date on the 5th Avenue website: http://www.the5thavenueband.com/schedule.html

Since the meeting last Monday – emails have been flying around. Keep up the effort and continue with the ideas. We will have a lot of decisions to finalize at the next meeting. We have a large number of volunteers working to pull this event together (too many to mention). “WE” can pull this off. “Together”, we will make this a successful event and make a difference in Tipper’s life.

As always, if you know of someone that would be interested in participating please feel free to forward this email to them and/or get their email address to me so I can add them to the list. Remember that the next organizational meeting will be in Delcambre at the Shrimp Festival building on Monday, Oct 19th at 6:30pm. All are welcome to attend.

Ok, here is something I threw together for a shirt idea for this cook-off fundraiser if anybody is interested.

Guys, this would be a great way to help out a kid who has become paralyzed while trying to serve our country and also a great way to get SaltyCajun.com out there and get more people to the site.

Sounds great to me! I would also like to get a SaltyCajun banner or sign for us to also put on our tent. I have a few tents I can put up for us to get under.

longsidelandry 10-14-2009 07:11 PM

Ok, I have an update on this event. Please remember that this is a benefit for an 18 year old young man that was paralyzed from the chest down while in basic training serving this great country we live in.

Teams will be allowed to enter in the following 5 categories:

Pork, Beef, Chicken, Seafood and Anything Goes

You will be allowed to enter as many dishes as you like but a dish can only be entered into one category.

The costs per team will be $50 to enter 1 category, $80 to enter 2 categories and $100 to enter 3 or more categories

I am trying to get a SaltyCajun team together to cook for this event, please let me know ASAP if you would like to participate.

Also, please be aware that we are accepting any kind of donations, "gifts" to raffle or auction and anyone who would like to volunteer their time will not be turned down.

Also, when you fly the SC banner at an event, send me pictures of the banner (and everything surrounding it), and give me details about what the event was, how many people you estimate were there, etc. I want to get our name out there in front of people, so I will find a way to reward those who do. ;)

Sorry about that Shad, I didn't even think about it. Would you mind if we put the banner up on our tent?

No problem at all. I'd be proud to have it at an event such as this one. Let me know if there is anything I can help with on this event, and take some pictures of the banner and the event in general.

T- Shirts

W,
How much notice do we need to give on the t shirts and i know they allready have the SC logo on file is there an extra charge for adding Billy styx logo.
What about any of our other site sponsors? If we can get them on board maybe we can get enough sponsorship to pay for the shirts?
I don't mind paying for mine but it's a thought?
Just want to be sure not to cut it to close on the time frame for shirts.

We need to get the ball rolling on this so if somebody wants to get on a team let me know. We don't have to make just one team, we can do 2 teams or more if needed.

This will be a very fun day and we will definately get the SaltyCajun and also the BillyStix names out there.

Tipper Fund raiser

All Right ,
I been waiting for some of the west side boys to step up!
I know it's duck season and i know it's deer season and i know most of us have familys. But this is a great cause for the site and everyone here on it to get behind.
Besides, Wouldn't you want folks to step up for you if you or one of your family was in this position???
COME ON GUYS, All we are asking is one day of your time. (and a lil $$$ for the cause).
If you can't cook ( or don't want to ), fine . come out w/ your family and support the cause , the site and the salty cajun cooking crew.
we need at least 4 if not 5 on the cooking crew. Right now i am only sure of 2.
we have plenty of pork and deer meat but if someone can get us some beef and/or seafood donated It would be appreciated and not knock such a deep hole in our wallets.
So far the only thing we are sure of is the pork dish we are doing.
with such a short time frame to cook , we will probably precook all the beef and pork and???. Seafood and( any other) can probably be cooked on site.
In the infamous words of Gov. Long: CAN YA HEP ME???:help:

longsidelandry 10-20-2009 05:13 PM

Thanks eman, I posted out of despair a couple of times and felt like I was :beathorse: since I wouldn't get any responses. Hopefully we can get some of these guys to step up and either join the team or at least maybe help out with donations. Remember, any kind of donations will be accepted, nothing will be turned down. If you somebody that can get a good deal on something we may need either for the cooking team or for the fundraiser itself please let me know, it doesn't matter if it's a case of bottled water or some plates to serve the food in.

Hey dude
i feel your pain man, if i lived in cajun country i would help you out but it's a long drive for sure.i would have thought that after i donated a custom rod it would kinda spur folks into doing something to help out, we never know when we ourselves might need help and if you look around you and see that no one is stepping up to the plate then what if were your son or daughter or for god's sake yourself.
I hope it never comes to that but you never know, all i am trying to say is dont let yourself get cut short, if i could do more i would in a heart beat.

I would be willing to help out on the team. I can cook pretty good. Times are tough on the home front but I can spare $50 -$100 and my time. Its 150 mile drive from Luling but like I said I would be more than willing to lend a hand to help a fellow American. Let me double check with the boss tonight and make sure the date is open.

Cracker Jackson
Roddy Romero & the Hub City Allstars
Michael Juan Nunez and the RiverBabys

5th Avenue

The entertainment schedule will be:

2:00 PM til 3:00 PM - Band #2
3:30 PM til 4:30 PM - Band #3
5:00 PM til 6:00 PM - Band #4
6:00 PM til 6:30 PM - Cook-Off Winners Announced
6:30 PM til 8:00 PM - Live Auction
8:00 PM til 10:00 PM - Band #5

longsidelandry 10-26-2009 10:41 AM

OK, so now we have the 4 members needed for a team...FINALLY! It will be me (Ross), eman (Bob L.), meaux fishing (Bob B.) and is it October yet? (Chad). As of right now we're cooking a deer roast for anything goes and smoked pork loins for pork. I'm thinking that we can do a chili for the beef since meaux can maybe get the beef donated to us and eman has a good recipe and we can do something with shrimp and fish since eman and I have alot of shrimp and Chad said he can get us some fish if need be. What ya'll think?
