Runnel's in Baton Rouge. LSU wants him as a pitcher. He plays all positions. High School Varsity: 7th grade bullpin catcher, 8th grade he was starting short stop, 9th catcher, 10th, 11th and this year 2nd base. And pitched also starting in the 8th grade. And of course he has pitched since he was 9 on travel ball teams.

Congrats to him and you and your wife! Both Goldenrod and I can attest to the sacrifice a family gives up for kids to play sports, especially to get him to this level. I can only imagine watching one of my children play at the Box. W O W!!!!!!!!

The official visit

6 Attachment(s)
Last weekend the bride and I went with Alden on his official visit to LSU. They put us up in a hotel right off campus. We met in the meeting room at Alex Box Friday afternoon and Skip Bertman, the legendary Hall of Fame coach, talked to the prospects and parents for about an hour. Then the baseball athletic trainer told us that he would handle all of our son's medical needs while they were at LSU. From a cold to Tommy John's surgery.

After that the boy's hosts came in and visited with the boys a few minutes and then.....it was kind of weird, the boys were told to get their things out of their vehicles and put it in the host's vehicles and they would take them to the restaurant and then the hotel. We met them at Mike Anderson's Seafood Restaurant. we ate well and visited with the coaches and each other.

Saturday we met some more of the staff and ate in the Champion's Lounge. They took us in the golf carts and dropped us off at our friend's tailgate. we tailgated until an hour before game time and then met up and went on the field for the LSU vs Miss. St. game. We took pictures and took in the pregame warm up.

We watched the game and then the boys left with their hosts and we went back to a tailgate and then walked Walk On's a local watering hole. We had a couple of drinks and walked to our hotel room. We slept late and had breakfast. We got Alden up and headed home. It took us about 15 minutes. lol We spent the day watching football and napping.

Enjoy the photos

Hey Mitt is the black kid Justin Williams from Houma. He's supposed to be the real deal. I dont think he's ever going to play at LSU though.

Catcher'sMitt 11-15-2012 10:53 PM

Alden and Jared played together when they were 9. They played on LBA Pelicans. That team was dynamite. They went to the USSSA World Series in St. Louis. there was 72 teams from 24 states. We played all week. We were undefeated going into the championship on Sunday. The Banditos Black, from Woodlands, TX, came out of the losers bracket to meet us. they had to beat us twice. At 2 am the second game was over. We came in second. Alden tweaked his arm at the players games they have, you know home run, round the horn and throw down, he didn't pitch the whole week! Caught and threw everybody out though. lol So far, 4 boys off that team have signed for D1 schools.

Awesome! All the luck to him. You must be a proud Papa. I've coached high school baseball for the past 20 years and it's always a treat to see those guys get signed and/or drafted and move on to bigger and better things..

Swamp, Yes. He can hit it a ton! But with all big hitters can he hit "A" pitching? He will go high in the draft, we are thinking he will sign.

Bullcroaker I bet that was interesting being on a small school's first team. They have had some success under Tookie. We moved up to AA a couple of years ago and are in a tough district. We have done pretty good though. We are hoping to make a run at state this year. We have two D1 pitchers. The bats are a little weak though.

I heard his his interview with Matt Mascona yesterday, it sucks his career ended the way that it did. With that said your son was very well spoken and I'm sure he'll do great in his chosen career. Alden was at a few practices when my son was playing with LBA, class act all around. Be proud of the young man you raised, and thanks Alden for being a great Tiger!

marshrunner757 03-15-2017 12:12 PM

Congrats to you and your family! Happy for him!

I second this. Wrote a very nice article to his teammates prior to the season. I'm sure it has been a tough few months for all of you, especially Alden. I wish him nothing but the best.
