User Titles

1 Attachment(s)
I've had a few questions about the user titles (under your username). Here is how they are set up, and how many posts you need to have to move to the next level. This was the best I could come up with in the 5 minutes I thought about it. :)

If someone wants to propose a new scale of titles to work with these same post count levels, feel free to post up your ideas!

You bought a premium membership, so you can change your user title in your profile settings. ;)

jlincecum 10-11-2009 07:25 PM

sweet. did not know that.:)

catch.and.fillet 10-11-2009 07:32 PM

Not sure of the value of this. I mean you could look at the top right of the header and see the post quantity.

Tagging newbies as a hardhead won't inspire me to post more or continue on site. As a fairly new user, it's intimidating enough to post a report without a limit in the box but ...I'm trying to contribute.

Gafftop isn't much better.

I know it's all in fun but it seems to run counter to encourage new members. Calling 'em out as light users seems to run against the concept of an open and fun site.

I liked the old way better. It was part of the entertainment of the site. Again, I think the post counter title is sort of redundant and frankly, shouldn't be as heavily emphasized.

That's my two cents worth.

ShadMan 10-11-2009 07:48 PM

Agreed, "Hard Head" may not be the best way to welcome new members. :) Again, I thought it up in literally under 5 minutes. I also thought about using things like "fingerling", etc. Most sites use "Newbie", "Up and Comer", "Pro", etc. Any suggestions are welcome. The post counts are at the top of this thread...feel free to come up with a new scale. There's some SC cash in it for someone who comes up with a better one. ;)

huntin fool 10-11-2009 07:59 PM

Flounder- 200 post and under

Red-200-400

spanish mac-800-1000

king mac-1000-1400

red snapper-1400-1800

ling-1800-2200

sail fish-2200-2600

jlincecum 10-11-2009 08:00 PM

nice job fool

CatDaddy 10-11-2009 08:06 PM

Thats a nice one fool...

catch.and.fillet 10-11-2009 08:14 PM

Same here. Nice job. No Trash Fish - a good motto in life, too.

Just thinking, I might put the flounder above the speck. They're great eating and tougher to target most of the year. A stuffed saddle blanket is tough to beat . . .

cabwiz2 10-11-2009 08:15 PM

nice names fool but the 200 to move up the first time is a little to high. Got to encourage people to post, but that will just encourage people to

cabwiz2 10-11-2009 08:15 PM

do

cabwiz2 10-11-2009 08:15 PM

this

huntin fool 10-11-2009 08:16 PM

Feel free to switch them around, just throwing some names out there. Took me 3 minutes to think up.

cabwiz2 10-11-2009 08:16 PM

to get their post count to that level. Just a sugestion. As I sais I do like the names though.

mikedatiger 10-11-2009 08:20 PM

Totally agree cabwiz2 - like asking for class participation - get a lot of bonehead comments just bc its part of the game.

Shad - I sent a PM and noticed that my cash decreased. Am I just going crazy?

That's part of the crazy equation that goes into the credits system. PMs, Classified ads, picture posting (except in the Fishing Reports forum), etc. (actions that don't have a positive effect on the forum) cost you money. Posting (especially reports), referring new members, etc. (actions that have a positive effect) all gain you money. ;)

I can come up with more.

Ex the annoying people be "banana fish" we all know how annoying banana fish are

Uh, no. I'm not opening that can of worms. :)

cabwiz2 10-11-2009 08:29 PM

Maybe ad Croaker to the top and start flounder at 50. Just a thought.

mikedatiger 10-11-2009 08:29 PM

so, hypothetically, if you get down to zero, you can't PM? Just curious as I am trying to figure it out.

THX and great work on the site

Mediumheavyaction6'6 10-11-2009 08:30 PM

maybe go with some boat references

Why am I not a flatfish....? Can't believe I said that.

mikedatiger 10-11-2009 08:35 PM

why not give some points for patronizing the sponsors - i.e. buying one of those great BillyStix rods...

Correct. It really helps prevent spam on the forum also. If someone new signs up and decides to start sending spam PMs, they won't be able to. ;)

I know

Polecat

......................the truth hurts!:*****::*****::*****:

longsidelandry 10-11-2009 09:18 PM

I like the fish names and the hunting names, how about putting them on the same points system and the user can choose which one he/she wants to use. Since this is a hunting/fishing website, some hunters may not want a fish name and some fishermen may not want a bird name. Just something to think about.

Reel Bender 10-11-2009 09:19 PM

Now that is an idea!

Unfortunately the software doesn't allow that. There can only be one list for the forum.
